Colds and Influenza - Natural remedies of proven effectiveness   Topic List   < Prev Topic  |  Next Topic >

A recent study completed under Health Canada's new Natural Health
legislation which reported that COLD-FX cut recurrent colds by more
than half is not as ground-breaking as it appears, says Jamieson
Laboratories - the product is essentially a mega-dose of ginseng.

"It's the equivalent of taking North American ginseng nine times a
day," says Gary Leong, Vice President, Science & Technical Affairs,
Jamieson Laboratories. "That means you can boost your immune system
just as effectively by taking straight ginseng supplements, which are
much less expensive."

Studies also suggest that ginseng isn't the only way to boost your
immune system. Garlic, Echinacea and Vitamin C have all been shown to
help prevent colds and shorten the duration of colds.

"The bottom line is that there is more than one way to boost your
immune system and fight off colds," says Leong. "If you take the
recommended doses of supplements like Vitamin C or garlic on a daily
basis, you will fare just as well come cold and flu season."
