FIR does *not* heat the air - so either these are not really FIR
heaters, or they have a fan included with them and some kind of normal
heating element, possibly in order to help 'pre-heat' the air in the
sauna tent. Bottom line... a purely FIR heater does *not* have a fan, or
'blow hot air'.
Exactly what I felt, Charles. Still, here and there on the net I am coming
across info that suggests that when they have the materials in a device that
will emit FIR, they heat it to activate it. Then I suppose the fan is
necessary to prevent the heater getting too hot, and maybe to swirl the FIR
frequency about. Perhaps otherwise it wouldn't be hot enough to make one
sweat, that otherwise it would be like the Sun Ancon kind that gives you the
frequency but you don't actually have sweat rolling down and the body
disposes of any toxins through the organs.
I find I did have the information as to where it is made:
Our Prime Infralite sauna is manufactured in Taiwan to the highest
standards. Our research found this to be the best available. The unit is
easy to assemble and can be folded.
And it must be FIR, for them to make the claim:
Ordinary saunas heat the air to heat the body by sheer force, most of which
bounces of the skin. Prime Far Infrared saunas use the beneficial radiant
penetrating energy of natural light to heat the deepest organs and tissues
to soften, dissolve and remove deposits of deadly crystallized toxins and
acid wastes.
I have found sites that are offering FIR materials; one is "Bio-ceramic" at
www.biocera.co.kr which they put in fabric or cosmetics or household sauna
(don't know how!) and another is www.ubs-negativeion.com selling Kiyoseki
powder that they evidently use in other FIR devices. So whether this kind
of thing is put in carbon or ceramic and activated by heat to become
therapeutic and used in FIR saunas I don't know. One site said: The
ceramic powders, coatings and disks used in FIR products and textiles are
made of natural minerals, such as silicates, that transmit far-infrared
wavelengths. The powders can be fused into various polypropylene fabrics,
and the textiles are engineered so that the FIR effects are not reduced by
washing. There are also devices utilizing ceramic-coated quartz lamps and
heating wires that emit FIR wavelengths. ...
http://www.chinaheaters.com has a FIR heater which is radiant and they say
it is a medical device as well as a heater. That is more what I was
expecting, and certainly what I wished I'd had once I did a bit more
research. And yet the claim is made on one site that the most effective is
the kind I have.
www.waveall.co.kr also has a radiant FIR heater. These two are the closest
I can see to Jim's heaters.
And on http://powerlife.en.alibaba.com there is a FIR lamp, but I suppose
that while that would be therapeutic, it would most likely not induce sweat,
even in a sauna room?
Oh, well - I've got it, it makes me sweaat, I'll go and have a session now.
good night!
