Hi Chris,
Welcome to the group. Sorry for the delay in getting your post to
the forum. I have no excuses. Well, none that sound reasonable.
Your blood pressure is very low. You may want to read my soapbox
article "CFS-FMS and Heart Disease; A few thoughts" at
http://www.xmission.com/~total/temple/Soapbox/mainpage.php3
It covers a little about the importance of blood pressure in
maintaining blood circulation.
How long do you spend in the sauna and at what temperature. How
soon into the sauna session do you begin to perspire and how much
fluid loss would you estimate that you perspire.
In one medical journal article telling of the use of FIR sauna for
heart patients the doctors reported that the FIR sauna caused a drop
in blood pressure while patients in another group that were using
hot baths did not experience a similar reaction. I'll try to get
the article information posted to this forum soon.
licorice does have a blood pressure raising affect. I believe that
this is due to it causing vasoconstriction. My guess is that what
you need is things that will help to increase blood volume. Eat
foods that are rich in B vitamins. B-12, iron, copper, and zinc are
needed, folic acid is also needed. google the internet to find out
what foods are the best sources for these nutrients.
According to Bernard Jensen, hydrating the body takes time. It's
more than a matter of just drinking water. Be sure that you are
drinking 8 - 10 glasses daily. I doubt that drinking more than
that, unless your body is craving water, will be more beneficial.
One suggestion, include lots of soups into your diet. I'll write
more on this in a future post.
Use the sauna to warm up but not so much that you sweat a lot. My
guess is that with blood pressure as low as you say it is, your
blood volume level is probably low.
All the best,
Jim

am having problems because my blood pressure is really lowering
while in the sauna especially the diastolic part. When healthy my
blood pressure was 120/80 and now it is 80/40 or 90/50 and when in
the sauna it goes even lower especially the diastolic part. Any
ideas on what I can do to help raise my blood pressure while in the
sauna? One doctor suggested licorice but it does not seem to make
much difference.
