Dear Friends,
As discussed in an article on front page of today's NYTimes,
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/11/technology/ebusiness/11PRIV.html
Yahoo has decided to sell contact info for all its groups subscribers
(including you!)
to marketers.
Thanks to Jillaine Smith for the following info on how to avoid YahooGroup
spam:
Yahoo has just made a sneaky change to everybody's 'Marketing Preferences',
the result of which will be a load of spam. To change them back here's what
you need to do to avoid all the ads: Go to http://www.yahoogroups.com and
login to your account. Choose "My Groups" (right side of screen) after
logged in. Then choose "Account Info" at the top right of your screen.
Input your password to get into your Account Info page. Your Yahoo ID card
comes up. Click on 'Edit your Marketing Preferences' about halfway down the
page. Notice that all your boxes now say "yes" instead of "no"??? If so,
change them all back to "no" and BE SURE TO READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF
THE PAGE as there are more below! Input the e-mail address to send any mail
to (gee, mine was set to a Yahoo acct I never check anyway.) Say "no" if
you don't want to get "deals" by snail mail or phone either (no, thanks.)
CLICK TO SAVE CHANGES.
