The Coalition for Critical Care Medicine in the Emergency Department(C3MED) is a group of emergency medicine physicians interested in the clinical and academic practice of critical care medicine both in the emergency department and the intensive care unit.

Our primary purpose is to provide a central forum for information and communication to aid in the coordination of activities that promote the active participation of emergency medicine (EM) physicians in critical care medicine (CCM).

We will do this by working in conjunction with other EM / CCM interest groups that are part of other professional societies (i.e. the existing/forming critical care sections of ACEP, SAEM, AAEM and EMRA, and the EM section of SCCM).

Our goals are:

1) To improve the care of critically ill patients in the ED

2) To improve the ED-ICU interface

3) To encourage EM-CCM related research

4) To increase awareness among EM residents of the viability of CCM as a career choice and fellowship option

C3MED is open to anyone interested in furthering these goals.
