I am pleased to invite all of you for our very first BSS English support group session! Here are the details of the session:

What to expect: - Updates on BSS
- Not one but TWO talks, firstly “What is Counselling, What is not” (speaker: Dr Alan Yeo), secondly “What happens before, during and after death” (speaker: Shangpa Rinpoche). Pls scroll to the bottom for speakers’ background.
- Opportunity to get to know and network with other BSS volunteers
This session is primarily for BSS volunteers but you may feel free to bring friends who are interested to find out more about BSS Please RSVP with me by this Friday 3 pm so that I can prepare enough materials and drinks for this session. If you have already RSVP with me, you do not need to RSVP again.

PS: Speakers’ background below.
Alan Yeo has an MA in Psychology (US) and an MEd (NTU-NIE). He has counselled students since 1990 where he was a lecturer & manager in a private school. He attained his Specialist Diploma in Counselling & Guidance (Temasek Polytechnic), and a post-Graduate Diploma in Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy (US). He is also trained in Eriksonian Hypnotherapy. In 1999, he joined a local tertiary institution as her Staff Psychologist, providing counselling support to the 1,300 admin and academic staff. In 2003, he started his own practice, focusing on personal, couples, parenting and teen issues. He is an Associate Counsellor (J C Integra) for Singapore Airlines and an Adjunct Lecturer and external counsellor for Temasek Polytechnic staff. Alan is appointed to the Films Consultative Panel by the Minister of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA). He is co-authoring a 2-year MCYS-funded project with a Family Service Centre, researching on Abused Children. He is also a Family Life Ambassador with MCYS. As the Editorial Consultant for the teen magazine, LIME, and writes a monthly 2-page advice column. He is an Associate Trainer, Lecturer, Personal Therapist, and Supervisor with Executive Counselling & Training Academy. He has conducted counselling-related workshops and talks for EDB, MOE, NUS, Temasek Polytechnic, SHATEC, YWCA,GB (Thailand), Shan You Counselling Centre, Fitness & Health International, and other organizations. He also lectures for the Australian College of Applied Psychology- Singapore Sports Council's degree programme.
Shangpa Rinpoche, at age 2, was recognised as an incarnation of the Great Yogi Shangpa Rinpoche, who was a disciple of His Holiness, the 15th Gyalwa Karmapa. He was ordained by His Holiness, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa when he was 9 years old. When he was 16 years old, he joined the Tibetan Higher Institute of Buddhist Studies in Varanasi and mastered Buddhist philosophy, literature, poet, history of Buddha and Sanskrit, etc. He also received many teachings and empowerment from many great teachers, particularly His Holiness, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche, Tenga Rinpoche, Khunu Rinpoche and Khenpo Rinchen.
In 1982, Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche requested Rinpoche to go to Singapore to be the spiritual teacher. Since then he has been the religious adviser of the Singapore Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre and giving teachings and advice to its members and devotees. On the 4th September 1998, he was enthroned as the abbot and since then, he has been relentlessly making efforts to spread the Buddha's teachings for the benefit of sentient beings. Rinpoche has also taken on additional responsibilities as abbot of Vikramashila Buddhist Institute in Nepal, Tharpa Choeling Nunnery in Mustang, and Drubgyud Choeling Monastery cum Institute in Lumbini. To manage his works in these areas, Rinpoche established the Shangpa Foundation in 1996 and became its Chairman with the approval and support of the Nepalese Government. Rinpoche is currently residing in Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre, Singapore and he travels frequently to the other countries to keep in touch with the progress of his works and to continue with the propagation of Buddhism.
