Sue's Implants/TRAM Flap Story
I was implanted with silicone gel implants in 1980 which I knew for sure had
ruptured by 1989.
They were rock hard and getting smaller in size and the pain was horrible.
Took me 5 years to find a doctor who would acknowledge the rupture and he
talked me into a tram flap.
He used my stomach muscle. I am 5'
4" and at that time weighed 120lbs.
He said I had to gain weight before he
could operate so I had a ball eating my way up to 130lbs altho' I hated
being
overweight.
The operation took 15 hours - scraping the gel from my ribs, etc. was tough
, altho this was told to me verbally and reading the written report of the
op. was very different to what I was told.
He had to use mesh to close me up - he'd made no mention of this in our
conversations pre surgery and was aware
that I did not want any 'foreign matter' in my body.
Had another operation though 'finish up' about three weeks later and then
other minor surgeries for a while.
The outcome is not pretty and far from what I expected...
Had the surgeries in Calgary.
Hope this info will help for now. Thank you for your concern and pls know I
will do all I can to help our cause.
Love, Sue
