Hi all,
I was on this list back in 2001 when I had surgery and never thought I would
have the need for this kind of support again, but here I am. :-(
I had an MRI on 04/14/09 basically for piece of mind to make sure that the
tumor I had removed in 2001 was still gone. Well, bad news, it was back
along with another one. The lesion in the 3rd ventricle is back which is
the one I had operated on back in 2001, I also have another lesion near the
cribform plate. So, this is what we learned from the neurosurgeon
yesterday:
For the lesion in the cribform plate, I will need sterotactic radiosurgery
in the future (probably 6 months from now) but that is only a day in the
hospital. Sounds horrible though, for that one you have to have a vice
screwed into your head and lay flat for 5 hours while they radiate your
tumor.
For the more urgent one (the one that I had before), I have to go for
another MRI but he is talking most likely doing a craniotomy again. He
could just drain it using endoscopy but in order to remove any of the shell
he would have to do an open procedure. The shell is wrapped around a couple
of main veins so he can't remove the whole shell but he thinks he can get
rid of most of it so it won't grow back again. For now we are taking it one
step at a time and I am going to go for a better MRI than the one I had.
Strong's MRI machine has a magnet that is much stronger than Borg's so they
can get better pictures. So they are going to schedule another MRI and a
bunch of lab work and then I am going to meet with him again to make a
decision regarding what we should do at this time.
We will keep you posted.

1.5cm colloid cyst cleaned from 3rd ventricle on 02/19/01 via right frontal
craniotomy - currently two lesions, return of the colloid cyst and lesion
originating from cribform plate, awaiting surgical decisions. Right frontal
craniotomy is most likely for colloid cyst and stereotactic radiosurgery for
the cribform plate lesion.
