HR 7153 National Childhood Brain Tumor Prevention Network Act of 200   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #4694 of 4949 |
Dear Meningi-mates, Brain Activists and BrainSurgery friends,
Please forward this email to any brain tumor groups you participate in and
also to any people you believe with be interested in this Bill.

Last Friday a Bill was introduced into the House of Representative, HR 7153,
the "National Childhood Brain Tumor Prevention Network Act of 2008."

What is this Bill and what does it do.
The Bill mandates a multi-year, multi-consortium, comprehensive study of the
cause of childhood brain tumors, the leading cause of solid tumor death in
children. It is comprehensive because it will examine the children's (children
with brain tumors and children without brain tumors) environment, nutrition,
genetics, epigenetics, pathology, and even their blood at birth. The study
will include the majority of the United States childhood brain tumors over a
period of 5-years, using multiple research teams across the country
(consortiums), who will follow the same procedures.

While the majority of brain tumor are in adults much of the research will
allow us to learn about the cause of all brain tumors because many childhood
brain tumors are also adult brain tumors.

The introduction of this Bill is only the beginning. What must happen is
that this Bill becomes law. This will not happen during the remaining days of
the current Congress. However within the first few days of the next Congress
(early January 2009) it will be reintroduced. While it will have a new
number, the language will be the same.

There is a lot that can be done during the remainder of 2008 and each of you
can play your own role. The immediate tasks are:
1) Find a Senator willing to introduce the exact same language into the
Senate as soon as possible;

2) Find Representatives who will co-sponsors this Bill;

3) Inform your work mates, friends, and brain tumor survivors and/or their
families that this bill exists, and;

4) If anyone would like more information or would like to help ask them to
contact Lloyd Morgan at 510 528-5302 or by email at _bilovsky@..._
(mailto:bilovsky@...) (Subject: National Childhood Brain Tumor Prevention
Network Act of 2008).

As soon as the Bill is introduced in the Senate we can then ask other
Senators to co-sponsor the Senate Bill.

If you would like the exact language of the Bill go to
_http://thomas.loc.gov/_ (http://thomas.loc.gov/) , enter "HR 7153" into box
labeled "Search Bill
Text", click button "Bill Number" and click on "Search."

Best regards to all,
Lloyd
