Dear Josie and all,
My social and health care connections have grown and contracted several times in the many years since my first brain surgery. Are you familiar with the Friends Health Connection? It is a great organization for finding people with similar medical conditions and a desire to communicate with others of like mind. Read some quotes about the group at
Many people have found the personal help and support they wanted and have created their own new social support friendships in their communities through this organization.
Also look up the Brain Injury Association in your state there are 43 states that have this. Maybe there is a local chapter or some local members near you http://www.biausa.org/Pages/state_contacts.html
For some reason, Jo I think I remember, you are in Massachussetts? if so look here http://www.mbia.net/about/index.htm
Also the major brain tumor organizations have support group listings and services availalble.
Also ask the social worker at a hospital near you, they often have contacts with outpatient services that might be what you are looking for now.
These might be good places for you or anyone else to look into for support and personal assistance after treatment too. I have found emotional support and vocational assistance through the weekly brain injury support group near me It is so important to continue to make new social connections to maximize our recovery process, especially if our former social systems seem to be breaking down around us, especially if we lose or can't keep up with our former schedules and social contacts.
