RE: [brain tumor] MNG Things to remember

Great post from Delia...  the possible symptoms caused by a brain tumor are too numerous to list - although a few symptoms may be found regardless of brain area affected (i.e. headaches, dizzy spells) and may be due to increased pressure within the brain due to the extra mass or obstruction of normal flow, most symptoms vary depending on the tumor's location in the brain and what that area's function is.  I.E., Hearing can be affected when the side(s) or temporal lobes of the brain or acoustic nerve are affected, speech problems with the frontal lobes (depending on which side of the brain and whether you are right handed or left handed, believe it or not), judging distance or "spacial relationships" when the parietal lobes are affected, and on and on and on.

I agree with Delia 100%.  Get all the information you can get, ask questions and be your OWN ADVOCATE.  If you don't feel comfortable with a certain doctor, get another one.  Get several medical opinions to make sure you know all your options and have several opinions to compare and help you with your decision.

And don't forget us if you need additional support.

Trisha

Subject: [brain tumor] MNG Things to remember

Hello mates,
I've had the privilege of speaking to some of you who have called with concerns about dealing with a meningioma and what to do about it.

Although we are all in this together, it's important to note that our tumors are not all located in the same area nor are they affecting the same parts of our bodies.  We are all different, with tumors in different parts of the brain, affecting different areas.  With that said, it's important to also note that all of us have different decisions we have to make regarding treatment or surgery.  I can only be of support, but I cannot steer you or have influence over your personal decisions regarding treatment.  It would most likely be a decision you will have to live with for the rest of your life.

Talk it over with your spouse, children, close family members who love you.  They can help you and discuss it with you, but you will be the one who would ultimately be making the choice and going through with it.  Listen to your gut.  I do, and also refuse surgery if I am not feeling like it's the right time.  But that's just me.  I now feel ready because I have given it time and thought.  It's also MY only way out.  Do the research, and you will feel more empowered with your decision making.

A lot of friends or even family members don't now how to deal with it, which doesn't help us any!   I have been staying away from family members or friends that I feel can have a negative effect towards me.  I feel that at this point in my life I have had to become more selfish with my time and my person.  Now it goes like this----first me, then me, and if there's any time left over, me.    We owe it to ourselves!  If we don't do it, noone will!

The MIND is also very powerful.  I have heard wonderful stories and read books about cancer patients who have gotten healed by using meditation.  Someone I just met a few weeks ago got healed from lung cancer.  She had been given 3 months to live and had about 7 tumors.  She is now healed and never had surgery.  I am NOT saying it would be a good idea to just do this and forget everything else, but I personally think it can't hurt and could possibly help.
There's a wonderful book called LOVE, MEDICINE AND MIRACLES by Dr. Bernie Siegel.  I recommend it.  It has many  heartwarming stories.
It takes time and a lot of work, but we're worth it!

All the best,
Delia Camacho
