Dear Friends,
Last week we were in Washington, DC as part of Brain Tumor Action Week. We were dismayed as Congressional office after Congressional office told us that the 2003 tax cut bill threatens all healthcare issues.
For the sake of our lives and the healthcare of all of us, PLEASE HELP US DEFEAT THE 2003 TAX CUT!
Time is of the essence: The Senate vote will probably be Friday, May 16; Congress will take it up in committee after that with a finale vote probably two weeks later.
PHONE CALLS MAKE A DIFFERENCE: We all need to call and get all of our friends and colleagues to call our Senators and then our Representatives and demand "NO TAX CUTS UNTIL EVERYONE HAS HEALTH CARE!"
(To find phone numbers for your Senators, see http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm; and for your Congressional Representative's phone number, see http://clerk.house.gov/members/index.php; or e-mail us.)
WHY BOTHER CALLING?
· Because in many jurisdictions, the 2001 tax cut (the biggest in our history) has resulted in an estimated 25% of our current state and local deficits (heavily effecting health costs and education);
· Because the biggest effect of the proposed 2003 tax cuts will not be new jobs, but a dramatic reduction in healthcare jobs and services (in addition to slashed education and public safety jobs and services);
· Because nursing homes, hospitals & clinics are already reducing and eliminating programs -- and medical research and services are being decimated as well -- with promises of ever bigger cuts.
WHAT MORE WILL WE LOSE WITH THE PASSAGE OF THE 2003 TAX CUT?
Congressional offices talley phone messages -- Please tell your Congress-persons (even if you don't consider yourself "political"): "NO TAX CUTS UNTIL EVERYONE HAS HEALTHCARE"!
Please call immediately and pass this urgent message e-mail to all persons and groups you know.
