Girl, it sound like you need a metal pick.
What do you do with the essential oils? Shea butter is really good
for dry hair. Also deep conditioning can help with dryness. Our hair
need conditioning.
I always do my hair while its wet, and add product to it then, it
seems to help with dryness better that way then if I style it dry.

I've been natural for a year and I still need some help. I need help

i'm done with my hairstyle. Fortunately, I've been blessed to find a
beautician who know how to do many hair textures and encourages me to
keep my hair natural and styles it very beautifully(unlike some
beauticians who will try and talk you back into the creamy crack). I
would love to know how to put my hair into a puff and ponytails

it being straight. I have extremely thick hair and have broken every
wide tooth pick i own trying to pick my afro so I would love it if
someone could recommend a pick for me also. Also, what is good for

I
haven't stretched my hair to see how long it is yet and I'm looking
forward to it but decided to wait until i'm 2 months into my second
year of being natural. Until then I need moisture, hair styling

and hair styling help. I use pure essential oils i get from my health

Ohhhhh ok I see what you were saying now. When you said coiled I wasn't
thinking in a style,I just thought you were referring to your natural
coils/curls, I wasn't reading it the right way.
Sorry about that.

Hey there. .
Your hair story sounds alot like mine. The only reason
I decided to go natural 4 years ago was because my
hair was thinning and breaking and I really wanted
healthy hair. At first I was only going to go without
a perm for a few months but then I realized if I relax
my new growth once it grows in healthy and strong, I
will end up right where I am now. I didn't want that
so I haven't gotten a relaxer in four years.
IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT. My hair is long, thick and
healthy. The transition period from perm to natural
was tough but I can honestly say that it is well worth
it. No more thinning, shedding and the other "issues"
that come with relaxed hair.
I suggest that you choose natural hair not just for a
few months but for good. . . just my suggestion! I
never thought I would have a head full of natural
hair. . I was just a "perm" kind of girl but I am so
hapy with a head full of HEALTHY hair!

I went natural March 2, 2005 *applause* but the problem I have now is
that my hair becomes dry after I wash and condition it. I've been using
spray-leave in conditioner and sometimes I'll use shae butter. That's
all. I'm new to this whole natural thing. So how often should I wash
and condition my hair? I go to the gym 5 days a week so I wash very
often with Pantene, could that be causing the dryness?
What type of conditioner did you use and that you are using now?
What did you mean by your questions, you confused me?? You said you already
are doing conditioner rionses.

Okay I need some serious hair help...
The short story is I went from long thick hair to semi-long, weak,
thin badly damaged here and my beautician isn't really any help...
To top it off when I get my hair washed its easily knotted and hard
to un tangle and very thin so a lot of falling out has occured...
I been relaxing my hair for so long that people suggest I should try
the natural thing for a few months but does that really work?...
Can anyone suggest something so I can restore my hair since it's
Horrible!...
Products I have tried to restore my hair with are:
Nexxus (including emergencee)
Doo Gro
Asphogee

Try one of the online pharmacy stores like Walgreens, Albertsons, CVS.
If you can't find it there, then try your local dollar store or
Sally's. And if you still can't find it... Some great alternatives
are VO5 and Suave.
Hope this helps.

I know you were directing this question to someone else but styles I would
reccomend is 2-strand twists, braided and twisted styles.....like braiding or
twisting her hair up into a bun or ponytail, flat twists with bantu
knots, cornrows, roller set ponytails, pony puffs. You could also d single 2-strand
twists and
braids and roll them up or just the ends. Use beads, hair shells, jeweled hair
pins,or clips in her hair hair to add something extra to any style.
Products:
Braid Sprays
African Supreme Hair & Body Oil
Suave Conditioners like their Milk n Honey for conditioner washes or daily

Organic Root Stimulator Products

I'm gonna tell you now that's a down right lie. Stylists and other black
people have spread the thoughts and rumors that the hair just has to be
straightened with heat or chemicals inorder for it to look good, prevent
damage,grow,etc
you name it. It's not true. Its plenty of children and people who have never
or go years and years without pressing and still have a whole head full of
hair that keeps on growing.
Long as you are properly taking care of her hair, using healthy hair products
and practices her hair will continue to grow out of her head just as healthy
and beautiful.
There has to be plenty of other reasons why that mothers daughter hair came
out if it did.

I use Pantene Hydrating Curl Conditioner and Suave Conditioner. My spritz
consist of African Royale Leave in Conditioner, olive oil and sometimes
sheamoisture. For a shampoo I use Herbal Essence.
I use olive oil as a conditioner prior to shampooing and also to oil the hair.
Another great oil is Hot 6 oil, which can be found at Walmart and the Nature's
Blessing oil. I don't recommend petroleum based products but my daughter's hair
does well with Softee Indian Hamp hair & scalp treatment. It has petroleum but
also a lot of different oils in it.
Do you mind sharing which styles and products?
I will do flat twist in the front with 2 strand twist in the front (the back can
be taken down and worn loose a few days as well as a twist out). I create a lot
of hairstyles I experiment every week. Also, I sometimes braid in different
styles, with and without extensions. Ponytails with zigzag lines with two
strand twist on ends. For instance 4 plaits total with 4 to 5 two strand twist
on each plait.
You will need to find the products that work well with her hair. I do recommend
using lotta body setting lotion, it just does something for natural hair. But
be assured if you do 1 shampoo and 2 to 3 conditioner washes, you will see a
different in the hair. Easier to handle. BTW, where are you located? I'm in

This is not true!!! My daughter is 9 as well and she gets a press maybe 1 a
year. Her hair has grown more without the press than anything. It is all about
how you take care of your hair. You know permies have to take care of their
hair and also naturals have to take care their hair. What I would suggest which
helps with the thick coily hair (which my daughter has as well) is to do one
shampoo wash and 2 to 3 conditioner washes. Reason being the hair needs to be
conditioned and their hair gets much dirtier than adults. But the conditioner
washes will help with managing her hair. I normally do protective styles
(meaning not to comb everyday), to help with growth and to keep your hands out
of it. I shampoo once a week. Their are certain products I can use on my
daughter's hair and brush it and it is pretty straight. There are so many
styles that can be worn to make her feel like a queen even in a natural state.
I'm sorry, I'm all about teaching my child at a young age to appreciate herself
and building her self esteem along the way.

Hello,
I have a question regarding the care of a child's hair that has never
been pressed. My dd is 9 and I've never pressed or chemically
straightened her hair. She has a beautiful head of perfectly coiled,
kinky hair.
Here's my question: Have any of you managed to not straighten you dd's
hair throughout childhood? If so, how did it turn out as for as growth
and strength?
I've been told that my child's hair must be pressed at least once

What type of products do you need? I am waiting on a shipment of a
nature based conditioner that, reduces frizz, lossens curl, strengthens
hair, and restores dark hair color?

Does anyone know how to get the coil curls on the ends. I have tried rolling
with rod rollers and they turn out to tight. Help

I've enjoyed all her hairstyles so far, even the "fro-hawk".
But I have to say Anwar' locks leave me breathless. They are just a
textbook example of how healthy locks should look, imo. I think he's
dyed them in recent weeks though and got the roots retwisted so they
look more like braids now. I prefered them when they were a
little "nappy" looking. But still, very gorgeous and I can't stop
staring at them.

At first I was concerned that Nadia would follow the path of previous
black females on AI and straighten her hair, but I think she's
comfortable with who she is and her image. Maybe it's because she's
older (28?)? During the 90s theme week, she talked about going back
to her natural hair. I can't remember what she said word for word but
she spoke in a matter-of-fact, never looked back, kind of tone. So I
think she's made her choice to stick with the natural.

For awhile it looked like natural styles were gaining ground but now
the weave is back with a vengeance. I don't even see braids that much
anymore. What happened?

I agree. I am not all that impressed by him as a
singer...maybe it is because some of the songs they sing
just don't fit the contestants range and vocal ability. I'm
kind of eh on Anwar all around I guess...his LOCKS are
slamming, but he is just to pretty pretty looking for my
taste. There is something so contrived about him. I am
still rooting for Scott Savol cause he is from cleveland!

I agree again. I am not all super militant where I feel
that everyone should be natural, but like you said, I am
long past tired of the fake looking weaves. I have never
been a fan of the stuck to the head-hyper straight look

downfall of man. this was reavealed to me as well. capitalism, in
case you dont know (because some people don't when i mention this),
is the economic system which breeds inequality. it is founded on
the belief of gaining maximum profit based on capital (money). it
is structured to make more money...money, money, money. it is they
way that modern industrial nations such as the U.S is governed.
for instance, the early european exlorers came to america for a
place to
market agricultural goods, and they needed a source of labor when
the native
americans proved insufficient as they died off from disease, so they
got african slaves. we were brought here so they (europeans) could
get financial gain from crops like sugar, tobacco, rum, and rice,
and cotton, for the british monarchy to use. the same thing is
going on with the animals that people habitually
consume. we naturally have teeth like other herbivorous animals,
who are not meat eaters, such as horses, and primates, who are our
closest living relatives in the animal kingdom. (fyi..did you know
that human beings and chimpanzees share 99% identical DNA?). our
teeth are naturally non-carnivorous, and i feel that if it was meant
for humans to eat meat, we would have carnivorous fangs like natural
meat eaters, such as dogs, cats, lions, and things of that nature.
(just like with our hair. if god wanted it to be straight, wouldn't
he have made it that way?) all these animals have the ability to
tear through raw flesh at ease, humans on the other hand, could
never do it, even if we tried.
i honestly feel (and this is just my personal opinion) that
eating meat is an atrosity in the eyes of god. these are HIS
creations, and because we did not create them, we should not destroy
them for no reason at all. unless of course you are starving to
death and its all you have. but, majority of people aren't close to
starving so i feel that we don't have the right to destroy god's
masterpieces. these creatures are
so very similar to us, they breath the same air, bleed the same
blood, they form relationships within their communities,
and have roughly the same organs. its just that humans put
themselves on such high of a pedestal that we feel we are the
almighty! we destroy them for our own eating pleasure. there is so
much that we will never know about these godly creatures, BUT,
people say they do, and that is all bullcrap.
as far as chemicals go, like you said, they are all killing is. by
using these chemicals, the companies are expanding their pockets by
allowing for mass production. i am convinced too, that all of this
sickness is attributed to these factors.
then, there is the almighty drug industry. i was going to school
to be a pharmacist, but this past november, when i had my
revelation, i changed majors. heres why...in our society, we rely
so much on prescription drugs to treat conditions that could be
managed naturally if only people would stop eating the way they do.
the whole reason why drug companies exist is to make more money.
one of the pharmacists that i worked with told me that there are
only 2 ways that waste is excreted through our bodies (waste from
drugs) and that is through the liver and the kidneys. by taking
tons of prescription drugs to treat ailments, you are killing these
vital organs, as they have to work overtime to excrete all of the
toxic waste introduced by these very drugs that are "supposed to he
helping". one eventually kills themself in the long run by helping
fix one problem, such as G.E.R.D, or severe acid reflux disease, and
creating a host of new ones. if prescription drugs could cure and
eradicate certain
diseases, they companies would go out of business. they dont want
that, do they? because we are talking about 100 billion dollar
commpanies here, and of course, there is always someone at the tip
top of the business, so yeah , they really dont want these cures to
come about.
i was also told by a pharmacist that in school, they
are taught to NOT recommend natural methods and remedies, which DO
NOT HAVE DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS like ALL prescription drugs. they
say that there is no evidence to support that natural remedies
actually work.
what this does, is help to sustain the drug market and discourage
the use of god-sent remedies when trying to help something like a
cold. they would rather you take dimetapp and more pills than drink
herbal tea. (sounds crazy, huh?) and while i have benefited from
the use of
some prescription drugs such as birth control (lol..i'm just trying
to graduate college and not make any babies in the meantime) and
antibiotics here and there, it is maintenance drugs, like blood
pressure, cholesterol, and things like that that worry me. these
things can be managed naturally, and that way is eating better and
living better.
and with the hair! why do black women poison their hair to try to be
cute?!? it is the craziest thing to me, although i used to do it
before my enlightenment.
but anyhow, my enlightenment on the drug industry led me to abandon
the idea of me being a pharmacist. i simply did not want to be
apart of the capitalist regime that our contry employs, and aid in
the destruction of man-kind. even though, as a black history
professor (my new goal), i will make tons less money than a
pharmacist, but to me it will all be worth it. i will simply divert
all of my energy from pushing and admistering drugs to uplifting and
educating others on the history of our people. sorry this is soooo
long, but i was really moved by what you posted.

No...it's not per se sin. But the foods I've been eating all my
life and other chemicals I've put either IN or ON my body (His
temple). I just really want to share His revelation with you;
though you might all know this.

Years ago, many of them were unheard of. I am convinced that the
preservatives, pesticides and chemical fertilizers and steroids are
to blame of most of them. These deadly chemicals are sprayed on the
crops, mixed into the canned, boxed and frozen foods, injected into
the fruit to accelerate the natural riping process and fed to the
animals to move them to the slaughter house quicker..ALL FOR THE
SAKE OF ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR. The industry is killing us while they
pad their pockets. Just think about it! Every chemical that is
applied to the food... WE INGEST INTO OUR BODIES. The body does not
recognize this foreign matter and as a result it produces all kinds
of side effects, including cancer, though it may take several years
to manifest.

pharmaceutical industry, there are what they call TOPICALS. These
are medications that are applied to the skin and get absorbed into
the bloodstream through the skin. EVERYTHING WE PUT ON OUR SKIN IS
ABSORBED INTO OUR BLOODSTREAM. How alarming that is! The article
spoke of the chemical perms we apply to our scalps (lye or so-
called "no lye" are equally as harmful). It's awakening content
simply stated that we are not aware of the chemicals that seep into
our blood and brain through our scalp. I don't mean to freighten
anyone, but when I think of the potential damage that could
result...I don't ever want another perm!!! We wonder where the
brain tumors and other cancers come from. Of course, the industry
will never tell us this stuff because again...they are billionaires
because of these products!!!

lifestyle to eating organic foods (as much as possible). I have not
totally done away with meats, I try to buy the meat from only GRASS
FED animals (those without the antibiotics and steriods injected
into them). Ever wonder why each generation seems to get bigger
bodies, especially our young girls - possibly steriods in our
foods!!! They are built like 40 year old women at 14!! If I eat
pork or red meat, I take a colon cleanser to cleanse my system of it
within a few hours.

stop to think about what our government is allowing - even the FDA,
you've got to wonder why so many people are getting sicker despite
our medical advances. We can recreate one living beings (cloning)
and we can send men to the moon,,, but we can't cure or retard the
alarming spread of these diseases.

hair. i'm just prayin to god that she doesnt go the straightening
her hair as the show goes on.
now, on to anwar's hair...his hair is just simply gorgeous. that's
the only reason why i really want him to stay, so that i can look at
his hair..lol..he can sing to me, but some of his notes sound so
forced and like he's trying to over-sing the songs. i think that
constantine is gonna win, but i am hoping that vonzell will. her
voice blows me away every time, and it sounds so natural. it doesnt
sound like she's trying too hard, like anwar does sometimes. my
only complaint about vonzell is that her hair sucks. its cute
sometimes, but i think it would look better natural. i guess i'm
just real tired of the super-long, super-straight, super-fake look
(i.e. ashanti or beyonce) that most sistas strive for when they get
all gelled up and weaved up.

Yeah, looks like wash and go to me too, but some nights it looks much
bigger than others so they must be doing some kind of twist out also.
