Hello Patty
Mineral oil based products are not always the best products to use on the
hair. Although for many of us growing up from babies on up mineral based
products
really didn't prove damaging on our hair. I say its ok to use them a bit, but
not excesively. With her hair being curly, many with curly hair find mineral
oil products to work the best but not good for the hair when used to much. And
if you would like to use natural products on her hair I would suggest
natural(not those such as Palmers or any that have mineral oil) hair butters
such as
Advocato & Shea Butter. Also essential and carrier oils and oils such as store
bought Olive Oil & Castor Oil...if you have never heard of it used on hair, it
sounds different but it truely is some of the best and natural products to
use. These can be found at natural health food stores as well. A very good line
with great products I HIGHLY reccomend you check out for her hair needs is
Organic Root Stimulator http://www.organicrootstimulator.com/ especially their
Carrot Oil,Shea Butter, and Olive Oil products. If your hair looks & is
healthy, and well moisturized then I say just stick to what you are doing
And I thought it was so cute you were saying she is always having food in her
hair =-)

If the products with mineral oil is working right for her hair then all
means continue your routine,I have the same problem with my daughters hair,I
have
tried the natural oils and products without mineral oil and they just don't
work for her hair,But I don't oil her scalp with it,and as long as she gets
her hair washed weekly it shouldn't matter,I still use products with mineral
oil in it and my hair is fine,But it is all a matter of preference, what works
for one will not work for all. I hope this helps!

You should be fine with the dryer.
But I have noticed that when I pressed my hair, some pieces would stay
straight.
This does not happen to everyone.
I have a friend who hair goes back to original texture when she washes her
hair after a press.
Mine does not.

I took my 3 year old daughter to her first salon visit today. The
stylist washed her hair and styled it into nine cornrows with beads

the owner said it would be $65. Of course I paid it, but it seemed
pretty steep to me.
Natural hair can be just as pricey as processed hair.
$40 is good for a child.

Many of the more natural products are safe to use on every ages hair. Such as
Organic Root Stimulator Products....mainly their moisturizing products.
Store bought Olive Oil, natural hair butters such as shea, advocto, etc. Oils like
African Pride & Royale Hot 6 Oil,S-Curl No Drip Activator, etc.

try slathering the twist with instant conditioner first, you may want to add
some water for moisture. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, take your time and
work slowly fron the bottom up.

If you are speaking of twists just done with your own hair, I would highly
suggest combing & brushing out the hair very good before you twist up the
hair(if you don't already). When taking them down, I have found that taking them
out
as slow as possible & just unravel it from the exact way it was done helps out
alot. Also have you tried taking them out after misting a bit of water & a
good moisturizer(such as a braid spray) to the twists. As well as using a rat
tooth comb & use the very end of the comb which is straight to seperate the
twists.

I'm glad it turned out nice. But honestly that is wayyyy to high to me. But
different salons have different price scales. If you choose to go to another
salon with your daughter it may be best to ask & talk about what hairstyle you
would like in advance to know what you are getting into. But i can't believe
the owner & stylists quoted 2 major different prices 2 you.

Heat can do a varierty of things a small amount won't really hurt the hair
but an excessive amount regardless relaxed or natural then it can cause damage
such as split ends, dryness, etc. Although some natural hair types & certain
peoples hair can handle more or less amount of heat. if you want to use a dryer
thats fine.....just try to limit using it like not doing it every day, keeping
the blow dryer on a lower setting helps, along with if you like put a product
on the hair to protect it from heat.
And I know exactly how you feel, I am an air dryer too but with the weather
being so cold I have noticed I wash my hair less and like it to get dry as soon
as possible.

What is a fair price to style a child's hair?
I took my 3 year old daughter to her first salon visit today. The

Other than the price it was a good experience and my daughter's hair
looks beautiful.

Thanks for the advice. I have stopped doing that because I have
found that I enjoy combing my hair and have given up on the wash,
condition and don't comb look *smile*. Now I just braid my hair in
four sections and wear a silk scraf at night.
I am now trying Thermasilk shampoo and conditioner and it works good
with my hair. I then apply Vitapointe on my hair when it is wet and
then braid until until try. I then apply Kemi Oil (that smells
really good...like strawberries) in my hair.
My hair is very manageable and soft. I have found that not one type
of shampoo and conditioner works well with all types of black hair.
It depends on the hair texture.

That moisture you are trying to capture can cause
mildew and mold to your hair. You should not go to
bed with wet hair. Slightly wetting it in the morning
is fine. Since you are braiding it at night just
cover it with a scarf or bonnet.

Thanks for responding. Are they really worth it? If so, what makes

How long do you keep the braids in for? Remember that you lose 50-100 hairs a
day. If your hair is in braids, the fallen hairs stay in the braid. So the
longer you keep the braids, the more hair accumulates, and of course to fall out
when you undo the braids.
Yes combing does do a little damage but remember that every day 50-100 hairs
fall out. That's just what hair does.
I recommend you stay away from weaves.

I've been growing out my natural hair for about 4-5 months now and am pleased
with the growth. I cut out all the relaxed hair. I keep my hair braided
underneath wigs I wear daily. But when I take out my braids, I experience a
pretty good amount of hair falling out. My guess is it could be because I have
to comb so hard - my hair is extremely thick! The other reason could be because
of the Nature's Blessing I began using about a month ago. Does anyone else
experience the shedding of hair when you take out your braids?
What can you experts suggest?????
My hair is at a length that I can have it braided and have weave sown in for
styling. Any suggestions/precautions regarding this also? JB

I see naturallycurly.com are using a few black females on its
website...I guess they are trying to expand to all women with curly
hair no matter how dense or loose. There was even a national "curly
hair" conference in New York which from what I see from the pictures
included black women.
If anyone goes on that site, let me know what you think of it.
