Domb coils...
I've seen them around here in the Washington, DC area a bit more now a days.
They look like small, tubular Shirley Temple curls and are made when you insert
a comb with close teeth (like a rat-tail comb) into a section of hair that is
gelled.
Remember how when you were a kid and you would insert a comb in your hair and
twist it so that it tangled? And it was murder to get it out? (Or you may have
done this with a dollbaby's hair). It is a safer version of this technique.
Instead of inserting the comb horizontally, you grasp the smaller hair section
on a diagonal and then rotate the comb away from the scalp, manipulating the
hair into the tube section as you go.
The first time I tried to do them overseas, I got a series of tangles so I went
back to my two-strand twists. When I moved back home, I found a new hairdresser
who told me that my hair was a bit too long for them but she could do it for
$60. I decided to go back to her one day when I had the extra funds but sitting
in front of the boob tube one night, I coaxed a pretty descent row of them just
above my right ear so I bought some gell and tried it all over.
They took forever and didn't come out all that great so perhaps I will look her
up afterall!
I'd tight for time today and I can't find a photo online. If someone out there
has the time to research a link, please do so.
Until then,

Are you free on Saturdays? Sunday evenings find you at home flipping through
the channels? Wash and conditioner your hair and try diffrent things. There
are many sisters with websites that have "how to" sections for hairstyles. That
is how I learned how to do the knots. The comb coils aluded me for a while
until I finally got the hang of them.
Build up your skills while reading and researching online. These methods worked
for me.
