In my experience, a big dose of evening primrose oil, 3 capsules taken orally and 3 capsules inserted vaginally, really helps.  Do this twice daily.
another thing is we have our VBAC mommas on herbal prep tinctures, I prefer Pregnancy Tea Plus by Herblore.  If that can't be found at a local store try some other labor prep formula like PN6 or 5W.  These things can help and a VBAC momma needs all the help she can get.
Daily intercourse and membrane stripping is done every 3 days post due dates.
Just my $0.02 from a midwife who wants this country's c-section rate to go way down!

Dr's appointment yesterday.  Only dilated 1 - no mpre than last week & still no effacement.  Still, we postponed C-S until Monday after biometrics ultra-sound revealed very healthy baby, placenta & fluids.  Lots of contractions overnight & this morning, then nothing all day.  Hit w/a bang at 5 & haven't let up, but husband thinks they're Bracton Hicks.  I think we have a long haul ahead.  These are coming quick, & they hurt a ton, but they don't last very long - only 30 seconds.  Tough to know when it is really time!  Hoping this is the real deal.

I know this is somewhat controversial, but if you get close to the c-section date, would you consider a non-drug induction?  My doctor also said he would not induce with drugs, but would be willing to do foley cath or strip membranes once I was past due date and favourable. At 40 weeks I was still closed so he couldn't do anything, and then I had SROM and labor starting that night, so it never came to that.

Hello all!

My due-date was Tuesday!  With my first daughter 2 & 1/2 years ago I was doing a home birth but wound up going to the hospital after 36 hours, developing a high fever and not progressing and getting a c-section 5 hours after check-in.

My doctor is willing to let me try VBAC - but I have to go into labor and have a favorable cervix because she does not want to induce w\ drugs.  I am scheduled to get a c-section next Wednesday, but really don't want it.  I need to try to have this baby this weekend!  First baby came five days past due-date so I am thinking I am good from a timing perspective.

Any safe, natural tips for getting labor going?  I am trying to get a lot of walking in and definitely feeling more pressure on the bones of my pelvis as a result.  What else can I do to get this going that wouldn't be an inadvisable intervention?

All suggestions welcome!

Quiet day.  Contractions but not extreme.  Expecting everything to kick-up tonight like it did yesterday.  I think I'm dealing w/ a few days of prodromal labor.  I'm trying to stop worrying.  I guess it will happen when it happens.

Thanks for keeping us updated!  Prodromal labor is a b***h.  Had it, hated it... But I am glad to hear you know that's probably what it is, and are being patient with it (as stinkin hard as that is).  Best advice I can give for that is to rest as much as you can and eat/drink as much as you are able to keep your strength up.  My favorite was protein-rich chai tea from Bolthouse farms.  Lots of soy protein, and yummy to boot! (and even though it is tea, it is low in caffeine)

I know I mentioned chiro earlier, and don't want to be a broken record, but you may want to check that out and see if maybe baby's position is prolonging things and an adjustment might help. (promise I won't say it again, lol)

Keep strong, we're thinking of ya!  Hopefully all this pre-labor will help bring a nice short active labor!!!
*Hugs*

Just a reminder that the registration deadline for the ICEA workshop in Fayetteville is October 5.  I'm told that the instructor needs 3 more registrations or she will not be able to hold the class.  So if you're looking for contact hours as a doula, midwife, or other birth worker, and you want a small class size, this sounds like a good opportunity!  :)

BirthNetwork NWA and ICAN of NWA would like to invite you to our annual Holiday Party! Join us for a potluck supper, silent auction, and white-elephant gift exchange.  We just finalized our location, which is just off the Promenade exit in Rogers, so we hope it will be convenient for many of you!

When: Friday, December 16, 6:30 p.m.
Where: The Green Bean at Village on the Creeks in Rogers

What to bring
:
> A dish to share. Dairy- and gluten-free items are especially appreciated by many of our members (we'll have labels available).
> One wrapped pregnancy- or birth-related item per person who wants to play in the gift exchange. (Books, teas, t-shirts, salves, belly wraps, gift baskets, and even gag gifts all add to the fun!)

The silent auction will help raise funds for both our organizations to help us in our activities for the upcoming year.  If you have an item you would like to contribute, please contact us!

We wish you and your families the best this holiday season and in the coming year!

Hello Everyone!

Please note: December Meeting is Canceled. We will be attending the Annual BirthNetwork NWA & ICAN Holiday party in place of the December 2011 meeting this month! Please see below for more information!

I cannot believe we are in December again! It has been an exciting year with the VBAC Ban lifted at most of the NW Arkansas hospitals! I, for one, was able to benefit from it! We've had babies born in our chapter this year via HBAC which makes us thankful for care providers who are practicing evidence-based medicine!

Along those lines, I'll ask again: If you or a friend has had a VBAC in a NW Arkansas hospital, can you please contact us? We are wondering how the VBAC ban reversal is working for everyone else!

We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Holiday Party on December 16th!!! Our newsletter is below with more information!! Have fun reading!

Hello everyone!  Just a reminder that our holiday party, including silent auction, potluck, and "dirty santa" gift exchange is tomorrow!  That's Friday the 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Green Bean in Rogers.

Meanwhile, did you know that 3W Magazine is giving away $3,000 to a local nonprofit?  If we happen to be your favorite, take a few seconds to let them know--the nonprofit with the most votes wins!  As you know, we are all-volunteer and donation-supported, so $3K would go a very long way for us!

A sweet lady from Berryville just called BirthNetwork asking if we knew of anyone who could rent her a labor tub on short notice. She's due any day and planned to rent a tub from her midwife, but the tub is still with another client. Her husband works in Bentonville and is hoping to pick up a tub before he goes home today. Do you have a tub for rent? If so, email or call me with your number and I'll have her call you!

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Do we have any single working mamas in the house?

Britni Ayers is working on her thesis at the U of A and trying to include as many different demographics as possible.  If you are or have been a single working mother and would like to help Britni with her research, please send her an email at blayers@...!  Also feel free to pass this on to any of your friends who might be interested.

We're getting closer to confirming a date for our Fertility Awareness class!  It will be a two-hour class, and the cost will be $40 each for 1-5 people, $35 for 6-10 people, or $30 for 10 or more. We haven't confirmed a location yet, but we will do our best to make it convenient to the 540 corridor.

We have one more date option that our instructor would prefer, if enough can attend on that date.   So if you want to take the class and can attend on the morning of Saturday, June 2 (we're aiming for a time of 10-noon), please either "like" our Facebook post about it, or if you don't use Facebook, click here to let us know the date works for you.

Thank you for your interest!

Hello from BirthNetwork NWA!

A large part of the BirthNetwork NWA commitment to community outreach includes having informational booths at events such as health fairs, baby expos, and women's expos.  Many of these events are free for nonprofits, but some are most definitely not free, so we are seeking sponsors for those event booths, listed below along with sponsorship deadlines.

Upcoming events for which we need sponsors:
> "The World's Largest Baby Shower," March 31, Holiday Inn Convention Center in Springdale. Sponsor deadline: March 27.
> NWA Business Women's Expo, September 18, JQ Hammons Center in Rogers. Sponsor deadline: September 10.

Sponsorship levels:
> Silver sponsor: $50-99.  Your name will be displayed on a large "thanking our sponsors" sign at our booth at the event of your choice.
> Gold sponsor: $100+.  Your name and logo will be displayed on our "thanking your sponsors" sign at the event of your choice.
> Event sponsor: Cost of the booth (varies by event--contact us for pricing).  We will dedicate an entire "event sponsor" sign to your business or cause.  We will design the sign in coordination with you, and it can include your name, logo, a quote or statistics about the value and importance of your services, and so on (the only restriction being compliance with the MFCI).

You are more than welcome to purchase sponsorships for more than one event, of course!

Please call or email us to reserve your sponsorship.  Thank you for your support for mother-friendly and evidence-based maternity care in NWA!
