Hello out there!
You guys may not want to talk to me because I am pregnant with my fourth!
due in July.) But to ease your minds, my pregnancy was not the fault of
NFP! I had my first three close together. I thought I understood NFP but
obviously I did not. It wasn't until after the birth of my third that I
started getting serious about learning NFP. To be on the safe side, I took
my temperature and watched for the mucus signs. (Mucus sounds so awful.
There should be another name for it!) Anyway, I made it through the nursing
phase and did not get pregnant. That was a major accomplishment for me! I
got so familiar with my cycle and ovulation that I was actually not worried
every month about pregnancy.
Are you taking your temperature or just going by mucus signs? If you aren't
taking your temperature, I would really encourage you to. I really helped
me confirm when ovulation occured and eased my mind. If you are just coming
off the pill, it could be a little confusing until your body is back to
normal. But rest assure, it will all start to make sense. You will start
seeing an obvious pattern.
Some fertility facts:
The average fertile phase lasts 7-9 days.
Sperm can live in sperm friendly mucus for 3-5 (or longer) days.
A woman with short cycles could conceive during a period.
Ovulation can occure twice in a cycle. The 2nd ovulation (ferternal twins)
will always occure within 24 hours.
An unfertilized egg lives for 12-24 hours. i.e. 48 hours total egg survival
time.
Pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm. Even very small amounts of this
lubricating fluid may contain sperm. Withdrawal method is not recommended
as an effective contraceptive.
Anyway, I thought I would share.
Hope all goes well!
