Hi, everyone,
I noticed some questions came up about learning the Billings
Method while breastfeeding. Unfortunately I am not able to give
first-hand advice in that area. However, I did look at the book (The
Billings Method) and read the following:
about charting after the first three months of breastfeeding:
(page 108): "If you are partially breastfeeding, or your baby is three
months or older, or your periods have returned, you will need to
defer intercourse for two or three weeks while charting, in order to
gain a clear picture of your mucus pattern, and thus of your state of
fertility. After this, if your pattern indicates that you are still
infertile, you can safely have intercourse on alternate nights."
about spotting during breastfeeding, before your first full period:
(page 109- 110): "Menstruation will probably not be the first sign of
the return of your fertility. You may ovulate before your first period,
so you need to watch your mucus carefully.... If the mucus
changes, the safest approach is to avoid intercourse on these days
of changed mucus and for three days afterwards. This is also the
best policy for any day of spotting or bleeding."
The book goes into a lot more detail than I am able to type in here,
so if you haven't got the book yet, you may want to consider
getting it.
