Perhaps the most profound and shared impact Alzheimer's disease has upon individuals living with the diagnosis, and their families and friends is what it does to life long relationships. Kids take care of parents, dads end up taking care of moms, ways of relating to each other of depending on each other, of loving each other are scrambled and sometimes lost. Some turn into parents of their own parents, others turn into children of their own children. We all become angry and fearful; of the disease, of each other, and our selves.
This site provides a sheltered place for those of us in the midst of this turmoil to vent, to cry, to search, to support, and to begin to redefine ourselves and our loved ones in ways which factor in the impact of the disease. Share the good and the bad. Ask for information. Let that part of yourself which is best understood by those walking down the same disease path as you outside of yourself.
Keeping feelings inside is never the best long range solution to stree. We aren't doctors or professionals. We are fellow travelers. Take from us what seems best for you and leave part of the best of yourself for others to take with them.
This is a great group to make new best friends who fit into the new life imposed on you by this terrible disease.
