Re: !!SP: Re: [BayCanaryGrapevine] food processors

I'm sealing them up so they don't leak toxins into my apt.  I'm not off-gassing them, right now, for sure!  Sue

Hi,

I never seal something up to wait to outgas it . . . I get it out in the sunshine and I use baking soda on the item. Of course, most of the stuff I buy is something I don't react to, but every now and then, in comes a stinker, so it goes out into the sunshine and usually with a good dosing of baking soda. It's not too much trouble, just a hassle and makes me wish over and over that our government would truly oversee corporations and have a mind to public health. Lord knows, enough of us have worked long and hard at that concept to one day see it come true.

Best wishes,
barb

Max,

You made me realize something.  I slept on a vinyl mattress for 2 years (couldn't afford organic, so I settled for a $125 air mattress -- I know, it must sound really dumb).  I didn't seem to react to it at all, for 2 years, but as soon as I started antibiotics for the first time (for probable Lyme infection), my mcs got worse, and the mattress started making me sick.  I would be nauseous all night long, and I had a dream that the mattress was poisoning me.  Thank goodness for dreams.  I got an organic futon from The Futon Shop ($450), which was good enough for me (through probably not for the super sensitive).

So I may, in part, have reacted to those Macy's blenders because the lids are vinyl, and I've been sensitized to it.

I know what you mean about waiting -- I have towels that I bought months ago, and washcloths that I bought months ago, and curtains, which would help in many ways, since my windows have no coverings -- but I can't get around to trying to detox them -- too much trouble -- so they're all sealed up, waiting!  (I also have bad fatigue.)

Best wishes with that shipment!

Sue

A couple years ago I got a small Cuisinart food processor. I haven’t had any trouble with it, but of course we all are so individual about which scents trigger problems for us. It might be worthwhile to check out Freecycle or craigslist to find used ones and then do the sniff test.
Good luck. One thing that came to mind when I read about the glass blender and stinky lid is that some of those are flexible so probably are made with vinyl. Bad bad bad.
Another thing about vinyl, for anyone who might own a place or live in a place where windows will be replaced… When we moved into our mobile home I had to have one window replaced and got an aluminum framed window off the shelf at a hardware store. Just a year or so later, when I had to have another window, I found out that they (and most window places) no longer carry aluminum windows on the shelf; they have to be special-ordered, which takes weeks to have the window in hand so we need to plan such things way ahead.
Today I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Fed Ex as something for which I was waiting was again not delivered due to their mistake. I was told I could pick it up. No, I canNOT pick it up, I fairly yelled at the guy after I’d gone through rounds and rounds of this guy’s put-off’s. I cannot be in most buildings and I am not going to a place where there are going to be trucks running all around me, I told him. Hmm, I pay loads to get something more quickly, they make actually a series of mistakes, and their answer is that I should drive about 25 miles and go into a toxic building if I want my package, already significantly late. They of course “couldn’t” guarantee ANY arrival time and here I sit.
I have some S.O.S. pads outside offgassing even as I write (I have to leave a box outside for weeks) and it strikes me that we all do an awful lot of waiting in our lives. Good training for the acetic life. Sure wish I were into crossword puzzles.
Max
