Dear Folks,
Here's the directions for the Sept 6 Environmental Health Network picnic at Spring Lake, Santa Rosa. If you get lost on Saturday, call connie's cell phone for help: 415-385-9907:
From the East Bay and San Francisco, take the freeway to Marin County. From Marin, take 101 North all the way to Santa Rosa. Take the Route 12 freeway exit and head east on it. You will pass the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on your right. Keep going. Soon after, turn left onto Farmers lane. Go several blocks & turn right onto Sonoma Ave. Keep going until Sonoma Avenue dead ends, and turn right onto Summerfield Road. Go half a mile
or so and turn left onto Hoen Street. Go one block & turn left onto Newanga. Newanga takes you right to the park entrance where there is a little ranger station. Ask them for directions to the Lower Jackrabbit picnic area. Tell them you are with EHN so that you don't have to pay the entrance fee. EHN will pay it.
Please don't bring dogs with you to the picnic, for several people are allergic to the dander. The park also asks that we not use styrofoam products, for they are banned in the park.
Again, I need to ask that everyone carpools to Santa Rosa so that EHN doesn't have to pay too many entrance fees, as they charge by carload. Please meet at Ecology House at 2pm on Saturday to carpool up there. Let me know if you're coming, regardless. Either email me right away, or call me at 415-460-1257.
And what an adventure we shall have. There's a hiking trail all around the lake, and little
foot paddle boats to rent, and an Environmental Center to see. I'm not sure if swimming in the lagoon is still allowed after Labor Day. We can ask when we get there.
Looking forward,
Louise
Dear Friends,
Finally, our last frolicsome fragrance-free picnic of the season, tra-la. It shall be on Saturday, Sept 6 at Spring Lake, east of Santa Rosa. My goal this summer is to have 3 picnics in 3 different counties in order to include EI'ers who may not be able to come to meetings regularly. I will invite the Sonoma County support group to join us, The Carousel Network. I hope they can come right after their meeting that day.
The picnic is from 2:30-7:30pm at the Lower Jackrabbit picnic site, & will be a potluck as usual. Connie & I drove up there to check it out this week and were so impressed with the gorgeous woodsy site, full of dappled
shade & beautiful old oak trees. The lake is 72 acres big & is used for boating paddle boats only. I can't remember if the swimming lagoon is open after Labor Day, but I'll find out. We will do everything we can to prevent other people from lighting barbques around us, so I think it will work out. The facilities are flush commodes, but bring your masks as there will probably be other people in the restrooms. I am tickled pink to find another park for us to try, and hope our fellow Sonoman's will join us. I'll send directions later.
Also, I think we should do carpooling to the lake in order to save on gas. I would like to ask that people that are going from the East Bay, Peninsula, and the city gather at Ecology House at 2pm to carpool. I talked to Gwen tonight and she said she needs a ride from Ecology House at 3pm, so let me know if anyone wants to go up there at that time.
Also, I
just found out that the Marin County Section 8 housing waiting list is open Sept 8-15. Call 415-491-2345 for info. You can check it out online at: www.waitlistmarin.org Or you can call & ask them to send you an application in the mail. Or you can go in person to obtain an application at 4020 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Good luck!
with summer's sensuous sunshine,
Louise
