| Details for 2 events below: Tuesday July 8 - 9am CDFA LBAM disinformation continues at Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in Santa Rosa - Come support Sonoma residents targeted by the LBAM program! Saturday July 19 - 10am-5:30pm Non-violent Civil Disobedience training against the LBAM program in Berkeley. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The CDFA, the Sonoma County Ag Commissioner and possibly other agencies will give a
presentation before the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors The CDFA's attendance is in response to actions taken
by one of the two Sonoma neighborhoods where twist ties where planned, which
temporarily halted the twist tie program here in Sonoma county. In addition to
making calls to the Board of Supervisors and the CDFA, the residents placed
yard signs reading "CDFA, No twist ties here" in their front yards.
The public has the opportunity for
2-3 minutes comment time. All are welcome: July 8th, 2008 9:00am Supervisors Chambers Sonoma County Administration Bldg. If you cannot attend, please write to
the Board of Supervisors: bos@... If you have any questions, please
contact Yannick A. Phillips in Sonoma There are many reasons
to oppose the twist tie program as it is being practiced in Sonoma County. These include: 1.
Residents
have not been told that they have a legal right to opt out of the twist tie
program. 2.
Residents
have not been told the health hazards of the twist ties, as described on the official
MSDS sheet, which admits the chemical is an eye irritant and “Harmful if absorbed through skin”. 3.
Residents
have not been informed of the fact that there are a number of undisclosed
ingredients in the twist ties. 4.
There
has been no long-term testing in “urban” areas. We don't know if it's safe. 5.
Scientists
and farmers agree that the moth does not cause significant damage, and as such the eradication program is
unnecessary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Non-violent Civil Disobedience Training against the Light Brown Apple Moth Trapping & Eradication Program Saturday, July 19th, 2008, 10am-5:30pm 1924 Cedar Street (at Bonita), in Berkeley (scent-free please) The California and U.S. Department of Agriculture's LBAM pesticide program has not been canceled. The aerial spraying is scheduled to continue over whatever undisclosed areas the government considers "non-urban" as early as August 17. Meanwhile ground applications of the same synthetic "pheromone" are to continue in the form of 250 twist ties per acre, goop mixed with permethrin insecticide on 3000 utility poles and trees per square mile, and thousands of toxic sticky traps targeting neighborhoods for expansion of the pesticide program, all designed to saturate our air supply continuously for years to come. The door has also been left wide open for ground spraying of other toxic chemical cocktails. The traps and twist ties have been going up already, and we are told the utility pole applications are to begin in September.
