Can anyone recommend an ingredient that will help deminish dark areas on skin.
I'm looking for something natural. I would like to make a cream or lotion.

You can also combine some of these extracts in the same formula. Be
careful with the Kojic acid though.

Hi
Lemon I understand is good for lightening the skin. I have made a lotion with
lemon essential oil in and been using it on my face and it has made a
difference. My dark spots have not disappeared but faded a bit. I think if
you add vit C, this increases the affect apparently.
Just a word of caution, lemon is photosensitive so dont apply before sunbathing,
although there is not much chance of that where I am.

lemon & mandarin are good as well as tea tree. i would use a rose hip
base. spots are really hard to diminsh though so you will have to be
diligent. you can add half again as much of the eo's as it will be a
localized application. stay out of the sun w/this blend!

I know you said you'd prefer a lotion or cream, and have you also
heard that papaya is known as a skin lightening agent? O make a
papaya soap and there are many other natural papaya soaps out there
as well. Many,. many popular papaya soaps in the phillipines toted as
skin lightening.
In adition to some of the ingredients people are suggesting, you may
also want to include a papaya base in the lotion or creme. a few
more natural skin lighteners are:
Bearberry Extract
Kojic Acid
Licorice Extract
Mulberry Extract
Glycolic Acid
Lactic Acid (better suited for sensitive skins)
Lemon Juice Extract (very effective is skin lightening, but can also
be irritating to some)
I do believe that if you search for these ingredients, you'll find
them to include in a lotion or cream of your own. Carrot extract and
carrot EO are always good in skin complexes no matter what the
ailment.
Hope that helps,
Diane

You are right about papaya...I have heard of using papaya and
pineapple as a facial mask to help lighten spots on the skin. As a
matter of fact, I've used it and I can't believe I didn't think if
saying something sooner! It was your papaya comment that reminded
me. I will say that the mask does smell a bit like puke...and it
does drip - but it does work, too. HTH

Cleo, my granny used to swear by lemon juice mixed witha bit of sugar
to make a scrub. As a teenager, I had a rough dark spot on my ankle
from where a wart was burned off and she had me do that every day for
couple of weeks. It never completely dissapeared, but it did fade
considerably. You'd have to be very gentle with it if it's for your
face, and you may not want to do it every day, but it's worth giving it
a try, since you probably already have lemon and some sugar in the
kitchen. Hoep that helps!
