Birth
is an experience of the spirit as a new soul is entering the
world. The nature of spirit is expansion and opening which is
what a woman must do to give birth. The nature of fear is
constriction which interferes with the production of hormones that are
needed to give birth. Many books have been written about the mind
and body aspects of birth, but few have addressed the spiritual
aspects.
Birthing
In The Spirit explores the spirit though the values of truth, right
action, peace, love, and nonviolence, showing how their practice can
completely change the way in which women are giving birth today.
Cathy
Daub adds, "Truth is described as the instinctive knowlege born
within every woman that already knows how to give birth, meaning that
women do not need to be taught how to give birth, but rather to have
more trust and faith in their bodies. This leads to right action,
the feeling of peace, the flow of love, and nonviolence - a gentle
birth experience of love."
The
economic, financial, and psychological impact on society in helping
women to birth with less fear and fewer medical interventions is
profound. Reading about the spirit cannot but help readers to feel its
transforming effects, empowering women to be less afraid of
birth. The book also raises questions about interventions in
birth that change the times babies are born, and what significance that
might have in terms of their destiny.
"Any in depth exploration of human nature is bound to
address the issue of transcendental mysteries. This is why -
compared with other books on childbirth - Birthing In The Spirit is a milestone towards a better understanding of human
nature." -
Michel
Odent MD
"Where was this book when I was pregnant and so
fearful of giving birth- as everything in my culture had taught me to
be! How much more wondrous would have been the process of
bringing my daughter into the world, and how much we both would have
benefited, if only I had read Birthing in the Spirit then! Cathy Daub takes us on a journey into our
self, and it's the journey home. That's the magic of this
book. This is the journey I would sigh for any pregnant
woman." -
Suzanne

"The key theme in this wonderful book is to discover
your true nature, and to tap into the deepest human values such as
'Truth, Love, Peace, Right Action, and Nonviolence'. Following
the wisdom that flows from these values into the birth of a human being
takes one into an experience of 'happiness and bliss' and ulitmately
into 'an experience of spirit'." - Marshall Klaus MD and Phyllis Klaus MFT, LCSW
"Issues of a spiritual nature may help or hinder
pregnancy, as well as the birth process in any of its aspects.
The birth process itself, if allowed to unfold, can be seen as a
spiritual preparation for motherhood. Birthing in the Spirit discusses the role of spirit in birth in a way that is
practical, wise and eloquent. Cathy Daub deserves a very large
audience for this book.- Ina May Gaskin CPM

Birth Works® is a non-profit organization of childbirth
educators and doulas, that embodies the philosophy of developing a
woman's self-confidence, trust, and faith in her ability to give birth.
We believe that:
Birth is
instinctive and that women's bodies are designed to give birth.
The knowledge about
how to give birth is born within every woman: women do not need to be taught
how to give birth but rather to have more trust and faith in their own
body knowledge.
Integration of the
mind, body, and spirit is essential when giving birth.
