Transplantation - Alder Hey !   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #99 of 177 |
The Department of Health have carried out a survey to find the public response
to the Alder Hey outcry regarding retained organs and tissues.

In fact Alder Hey had a positive effect on donation for transplantation.

There were more organ donors than the same period in the previous year.
There were more under 5 years old children donors.
There were more people signing onto the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Despite positive information being released at the time of the media outcry
(Jan/Feb 01) recipient organisations, health professionals and the media all
decried the negative effect of Alder Hey.

How much better would the results have been if those spreading negative stories
had had a more positive attitude? Although, thank goodness, in this case the
public seem to have ignored the scaremongers!
