Yes, I have often thought that it would be helpful to be able to
confirm that you are actually on the database. Given the Data
Protection Act however I am not sure how it could be done. I suppose
ringing is a possibility but even then would the Act allow the staff
to tell you whether you were on the computer or not.
It would be nice to think that there are so many forms received daily
that it would be impractical for an acknowledgement of receipt to be
sent out, but I suspect that is cost rather than volume that means
that this does not happen.
As the husband of a someone waiting for a heart transplant I am eager
to ensure that as many names as possible are on the database. The
thought of any being lost in the post horrifies me.
