Hi all,
Well, I know most kids had their first day two days ago, but Andrew just had his. We had issues with knowing the bus was coming since Bellevue didn't call to let us know, I finally called last year's driver Wed. night and found out she'd been coming since Tues. (long drive, don't know anyone is there unless I look). On top of that, I took Andrew to Barry Co Wed. morning to get respite set up. The appointment took 2 1/2 hours instead of 1 1/2 like they warned me on the phone. By the time we got back home (to pick up a new change of clothes since he needed his extra set from his backpack at the appointment), it was after 12 noon and it wasn't worth taking him in that late.
Now, about his actual first day. Andrew is going back to DKDC, I have concerns but I've been assured the same thing won't happen that happened last year, but to a different room. He is in Nacy Fergusen's room, the severely congnitively inpaired room. I forgot to put his backpack down while on the bus this morning so I had to take it in to him and he seemed very interested in all the cool things they have. He really seems to like the swing they have in the room and the balls he can bounce on. He was really tired when he got home so I put him down for a rest. Right now, since Nancy is out with knee replacement surgery, we have a temporary IEP in place and he is only going part-time, three days a week, until I can be sure this is a good placement for him.
I'm glad everyone is happy with where their kids are going. Karmel, which classroom is Stella in? Maybe I'll see you around DKDC.
