Re: [BCautism] Wishing everyone a good first week of school!

I remember when Alex started Croyden when he was 3.  I wanted to ride on the bus with him, but they wouldn't let me. They said I could follow behind if I wanted to.  I didn't.  He seemed to really like the bus and school.

His parapro said he did great today. He didn't ask to go to the bathroom once!  That tends to be his safe place.  Last year in kindergarten, his classroom had a bathroom in it.  Now, it doesn't.  They have to take the bathroom pass down the hall some.  Aparently he sat there and with some prompting said Hi Mrs. Rekis. They also learned how long to drink at the drinking fountain.  He said " 1-2-3, That's enough for me!"  He was very chatty when he got home.  I love it.  I hope his first full day is as good.  He goes to Galesburg Primary now.  I really like that school.

I like hearing about your days too.
Mary

I was just reading everyone's first day of school updates. I hope more people will post about what they kids are doing and how they are doing, because I love to hear all about it.

Stella also started at a new school today, the DK Center. Last year she went to the satellite classroom in Albion (with Heather's daughter), but this year they changed teachers, so they sent Stella to school closer to home, and I'm glad. It'll make it so much easier to take her to OT and ST. Not to mention, they have an OT and Sensory Room at DK! And a pool! For a sensory-seeking child, this is great. I look forward to getting to know her new teacher and the people who are working with her there. (I think we are so lucky to have these ABA classrooms in Calhoun County).

I love her so dearly, but since she's gotten older, her autism has become more obvious. Since the end of summer school, she has spent a lot of time in our backyard rearranging our landscape rocks. Since I can't engage her every minute of the day, she spent far more time doing this than I would've liked. She does so well when there is a group of kids ... it makes it so much easier to engage her. School is right for her, even though she was very young when she started (and still is super young at only 3!).

Despite the fact that I was counting down the days, I still choked back the tears as I put her on the bus this morning and kissed her goodbye!

After she got on the bus, I went for a walk with the baby. I figure I have until the first snow to get some moreof this post-pregnancy pudge off!
