Well....I just got my 3 oldest all on the bus!!!  YAY!!!!:)

They all are attending Prairieview as well.  Connor is in 3rd (integrated and doing well), Keifer is returning to Steven Jewell's AI Classroom (through Doris Klaussen).  He is doing VERY well, and will be integrated more this year, into 2nd grade classes for math, reading, and science etc....spending more time away from his AI class.  He did well with this last year, and we want to continue "weaning" him from his dependence on them, giving him little bits of more responsibility at a time!  He handles this situation much better than he did the all day Pre K/K-special Ed arrangement he first started with, such as Hayley will be doing.  He loved Mrs. Caudill (she is just the best), but was always frustrated and became violent and had tantrums too often (unlike him).  The best thing we ever did, was move him to Mr. Jewell's class!!  This was the best for Keifer, and in the full year he has been in that class, has gone from learning nothing the entire first year (too much frustration to learn)....to being one year in his room, and now being placed in 2nd grade classes for learning!!!  Not bad for only 2 official years in school (and the first year to me, not counting)!!!  I will NEVER regret moving him there.  Although many felt it was a step down or admitting failure, but seeing his growth and advancement, I DO NOT feel this way at all.

Caiden started his first day of AM Kindergarten.  He is only doing 1/2 days, with help from para-pros when needed, and special services worked in.  We felt this was the best step for him at this time.  He did 2 years, of 1/2 days at Headstart, and is used to that type of schedule.  I think the fear was that he might start to react to the full day, as Keifer did, and didn't want to overwhelm him, and cause him the same frustration as his older brother.  He seemed very excited to be riding the bus this morning with his older brothers.:)  MAN....they have 3 of the Gibson boys at that school now!!!!  Poor souls!!!!LOL

The youngest, Kolten, will be starting at Headstart next week.  He seems a bit excited, and had asked to get dressed this morning and to get on the bus, as his brother's were getting ready!!  He's not understanding that he isn't going to the same school.  He will be in the same room with the same teacher that Keifer and Caiden had when they attended.  She seems happy to be getting another Gibson brother!!  I think she's nuts...but bully for her!!!LOL!!!

So that's the first day around here.....3 boys ready and off to school, and 1 more waiting in the wings for another week!!!:)

Hope everyone's first day goes smoothly!!!
Kelli

Alex is starting 1st grade today in a regular class with a parapro.  He will have the same parapro as last year.  He had full day kinder last year and was at Croyden for a year and a half full time before that.  He likes the schoolbus.  Yesterday when I was telling him about his day for today, he got up out of bed and went for the front door looking for the schoolbus!  He seemed worried that he missed it.  He got to meet his teacher twice before today.  He has some familier faces from last year.  By the way, you can ask to have some kids from their former class to follow them into the next year's class.  Alex seemed sort of fond of a couple of kids from kinder. and I had suggested if they could go with Alex into the next class.  It all worked out.  Hopefully, it will work out today.  Regardless, it usually takes a couple of weeks before any kid gets used to the routine of the new class.  Don't worry if it doesn't go well today,  it will go well sooner than later.

Best wishes,
Mary

Hi all...

Well tomorrow is the first day of the new school year...I am curious to
see where everyone decided to place their kiddos this year. Please
share!! Here, I'll go first:

As many of you know, Hayley will be going to Prairieview and will be in
the ABA classroom and hopefully do a half day in kindergarten as well...

I am a bit nervous because this will be the first time in a few years
she will be attending a fully functioning elementary school (her old
school only had 2 spec ed rooms and 2 head start rooms). This will also
be the first year in 2 years that she has a new teacher and new para-
pros...that's a lot of change for her. I hope she can handle it!

Good luck to all the kids (and their folks) and to the teachers as
well...hope you all have a great first day!!!

heather
