Autism Society of America Meeting Reminder   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #17 of 1532 |
Hi

I just wanted to remind anyone that may be interested that the next
meeting for the Autism Society of America is Tuesday, February 7th.
Social hour starts at 6:30pm and the meeting starts at 7 pm.

Meeting Location : Croyden Avenue School in Kalamazoo

To get to the school, take US 131 to the West Main St. exit. Go east
on West Main to Drake Road. Turn North (left). Take a right at the
first light which is Croyden Avenue. The school is immediately on
the left.

They are happy to provide free childcare for children with autism
and their siblings from 6:45 to 8:45 during our meetings. They will
provide structured activities and learning opportunities for the
children during this time. Pre-registration is very important to
ensure that there is adequate staffing for the safety of every
child. Please drop off your child between 6:45-7:00 so the activity
groups can begin together. If you plan to attend please call 800-
628-6421, ext 5.

This month's speaker is Bill Nason. He is a masters level
psychologist, behavior specialist, who works for the Autism Support
Center at Macomb Oakland Regional Center in Auburn Hills, Mi. Bill
will be presenting on the unique stressors (sensory, cognitive,
social, emotional) that children with autism experience, and how
they relate to many of their behavior issues. From that framework,
Bill will then discuss possible strategies to help ease the stress
children experience, help compensate for specific deficits, provide
structure and boundaries and discuss some common intervention
strategies.

I have taken most of this information directly from the ASA website,
but feel free to visit it yourself at:

http://www.asa-kal.org/

You will have to type the address into your address line because I
am unable to put a link in the email. There is a link on the Links
section of the home page of this group.

Hope to see you there!

Heather
