Thought I would pass this along
since we aren’t having another Parent Support Group meeting until fall.
For the teachers and SSW’s could
you please pass this info along to whomever might be interested.

Hello, I wanted to forward
some information regarding the upcoming Sibshops Training. The dates
are Thursday, June 18th and Friday, June 19th.
The first day is for anyone interested in learning more about sibling
issues. The second day is geared toward those interested in learning
how to facilitate an actual Sibshops workshop. For these facilitators,
they will also need to attend the first day of training. I’ve touched base
with each of you over the telephone, but I wanted to provide some additional
information in writing regarding the Adult Sibling Panel and the
Demonstration Sibshops. I would like to ask for your assistance in
recruiting adult siblings and younger siblings to participate in these
events. For each adult and youth sibling, we are hoping to provide a
stipend (typically around $25.00) to acknowledge their time and to thank them
for their participation. Here are the details: Adult Sibling Panel Thursday, June 18th
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM Don Meyer will
facilitate this panel of adult siblings. Specifically, we would like to
have between 4-7 adults age 25 or older. There is no upper limit on
age. Don will ask some basic questions of the panel, including asking
folks to introduce themselves and their family. He will also ask them
to speak about their sibling with a disability and how they might
characterize their relationship with their sibling as adults.
Eventually, Don will ask the audience if they have any questions for the
panel. Demonstration
Sibshops Friday, June 19th
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Don Meyer will also
facilitate this demonstration Sibshop. We would like to have between 12
and 20 typically developing siblings between the ages of 8-13. Having a
mixed group of siblings (that is, siblings who have brothers and sisters with
a variety of disabilities) is okay. Ideally, the parents of the youth
participating in the demonstration Sibshop will NOT be present, unless they
will be learning to facilitate a group. Any help you can
provide in recruiting adult and younger siblings would be greatly
appreciated. If you have a family that might be interested in
participating on either the panel or the demonstration Sibshops, please feel
free to let me know and I am happy to contact them and provide additional
details and answer questions. Lastly, I am
attaching a Save the Date card for your information. Please help spread
the word. A full flyer with registration information will be
forthcoming. Thank you, Rebecca Rebecca L. Clore,
