I just discovered this forum, actually by accident. Today has been very
frustrating, so maybe
someone out there can help. (Maybe no coincidence that I found the forum today)
We have a 20 year old son with autism. He is non-verbal, and functions at the
level of about
an 8 year old.
His pediatrician was Dr. Vetne, who was wonderful with him; but Dr. Vetne has
retired and
last year Cereal City Pediatrics told us it was time for our son to get an adult
doctor. It has
been a very frustrating experience. Does anyone know any doctors in the Battle
Creek, or
even Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids area who have experience treating developmentally
disabled adults? We know our son needs his medication adjusted. He has been
developing
even more OCB's and has been a lot more hyper lately.
I have even talked to the Developmental Disabilities Clinic at U of M and they
indicated that
they had problems knowing who to refer their patients to after they turned 18.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
