The Journal of Early and Intensive Behavioral Intervention (JEIBI) is currently accepting manuscripts relevant to its¢ overall mission to serve as a resource to teachers, researchers and parents of children in the Early Intervention to Kindergarten age ranges. JEIBI's target populations include children diagnosed with developmental disabilities, medical issues, and mental health diagnoses, as well as those who are considered neuro-typically developing. JEIBI's philosophical orientation is grounded in the science of human behavior, specifically promoting empirically supported teaching and treatment interventions which meet the standards of Evidence Based Practices. Additionally, JEIBI seeks to provide a forum for the discussion of critical contemporary issues within the public domain that serve to affect the provision of
such services. As such, we welcome and encourage not only the submission of research on successful interventions, but also the submission of literature reviews, legislative/legal briefs, and position papers focused on the ethical issues affecting the delivery of such services. In addition, articles and research conducted on organizational behavior management related to the improvement of program design and development will also be accepted.
Important Announcement:
Beginning with the Winter, 2008 issue of JEIBI, we will have two new Contributing Editors, who will provide insight into legal and governmental affairs that affect the ability of Applied Behavior Analysts to practice with this most remarkable population.Robert Crabtree, Esq., of the law firm of Kotin Crabtree and Strong, Boston, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Ursitti, staff of the Governmental Affairs Committee of Autism Speaks will be publishing quarterly articles related to new developments in Special Education Law, as well as activities related to issues such as the movement toward mandated insurance coverage for all children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
JEIBI is now included in both ERIC and Cumulative Index to Nursing and AlliedHealth Literature (CINAHL)
Submission instructions can be found at: http://www.jeibi.net/submissions.html
I would be interested in doing a half-hour session on breathing, specifically teaching an "on-the-fly" aggressive hard-exhalation breathing strategy that lowers the heart rate for a brief period, with discussion of applications in sports and performance. Would you want to collaborate with something or have it as a separate event? Thanks.

Subject: [B-fit] call for papers ABAI 2009
Hi everyone,
It was so great to see so many presentations last year that were devoted to using behavioral methods to increase health, expertise in sports, fitness.
I hope the numbers this year will be as big, if not bigger, than Chicago!
This is another reminder to please get your abstracts pulled together by Wednesday at midnight if you're planning on presenting at ABA in Phoenix.
Also, this is a call out to anyone who wants to teach a fitness class at ABA. I've taught kickboxing for the last 3 years, and the attendees are always eagerly asking for more classes.
They are excited to get a good workout during such a sedentary weekend and would appreciate any other classes. We've had classes for yoga, abs/core work, Pilates, and martial arts, to name a few.
Please let me know if you want to submit a Health, Sports, and Fitness presentation or class and want help putting it together.

Currently, we are in the process of starting a Behavioral Counseling and Coaching SIG at ABA:I. Unfortuantely to this date only 3 letters of support have been written according to ABA:I- Renk, Dziewolska, and Cautilli. These need ten letters for this SIG to happen. Please send an e-mail supporting the SIG to: Majda Seuss <mseuss@...>
It is our belief that having this SIG will create a more clinical presence at ABA:I.

Journal of Early and Intensive Behavioral Intervention is now available
online at www.behavior-analyst-online.org So stop by and take a look.

The Journal of Behavior Analysis in Health, Sports, Fitness, and Medicine
The Journal of Behavioral Analysis in Health, Sports, Fitness and Medicine is now online. Behavioral Analysis in Health, Sports, Fitness, and Medicine (BAHSFM) is a journal for those interested in the application of behavioral principles for promoting wellness, enhancing fitness, and sports skills development, and ameliorating disease. The bi-directional interaction between physiology and behavior can be effectively mediated through the application of elementary principles of behavior. Behavior analysis has thereby exerted its influence in the fields of health and medicine, as well as in the enhancement of the safe and skillful performance that in turn facilitates well-being.
Examples include but are not limited to the areas of exercise and dietary compliance, smoking cessation, stress reduction, diabetes management, obesity treatment, and the development of sport performance and safety skills that bring about healthy reinforcement- rich lifestyles less vulnerable to disease. This journal aims to foster a greater understanding of the impact of behavior analysis on health, sports, fitness, and behavioral medicine and seeks to publish conceptual and research articles in these areas. In addition, we seek to publish literature reviews and articles focused on behavior analytic contributions to health policy and problem reduction.
Currently, we have an open call for papers. If you
have articles that you believe are appropriate- please send them to me at jcautilli2003@ yahoo.com

I am a psychologist who is conducting research about smokers for a = global pharmaceutical company. The research activity is to hold a set of = web-based focus groups with cognitive-behavioral therapists. The research is a pilot study with a plan to extend the research if
the results of the pilot are successful. The goals of the focus groups are = to(1) identify approximately five common smoking situations (e.g., contemplating quitting, procrastinating about quit attempts) and (2) identify the thoughts (conscious and automatic), beliefs, and behaviors =in those situations for those who successfully quit and those who do not.
