Job Summary:
Assigned as a professional staff psychologist to the Behavioral Health
Clinic within the Frank Tejeda Outpatient Primary Care setting. Provides
behavioral health services for primary care patients, including initial
evaluation of patients under the new 24/14 initiative. Serves as the
initial contact for primary care patients for mental health services and
is involved in the screening and referral process for appropriate
treatment either within the primary care setting or to specialty mental
health services. Performs intake interviews for new patients, preparing
treatment plans and referral to appropriate treatment modality.
Administers, scores, and interprets a broad range of psychological tests
for the assessment of psychological functioning, primarily brief
self-report instruments to assist in guidance of the treatment planning
process. Provides behavioral health consultation services to all
interdisciplinary team members, including medicine, nursing, nutrition,
social work, pharmacy, and administration. Provides brief therapy
interventions, including individual, group, and psychoeducational
workshops, for primary care patients with various behavioral health
concerns. Participates in program evaluation and clinical research of
treatments provides within the behavioral health clinic settings.
Provides supervision of psychology trainees and other trainees within
the primary care setting.
Applicants should respond to each of the following KSAOs:
1. Knowledge/skills/experience in conducting brief behavioral
health interventions, psychological and behavioral health assessment,
and individual/group/family psychotherapy to address psychological
concerns involved in medical conditions (e.g., medical non-compliance,
chronic pain, diabetes, etc) and other mental health concerns using
cognitive behavioral or other empirically supported techniques.
2. Knowledge/skills/experience with diversity issues relevant to
the San Antonio community
3. Knowledge/skills/experience in education, including teaching or
supervising psychology and other trainees, leading patient education
seminars, and creating educational materials for patients.
4. Knowledge/skills/experience of successfully applied clinical
research techniques, including program evaluation.
5. Knowledge/skills/experience in working as part of an
interdisciplinary team within the primary care setting, working with
individuals from medicine, pharmacy, nursing, nutrition, and
administration, including the provision of services in shared medical
appointments and knowledge of psychopharmacological treatment in the
primary care setting.
6. Knowledge and skill to assess risks of self-injury, suicide,
violence, and mental decompensation and to provide appropriate referral
to psychiatry treatment within the VA as well at community resources to
address these concerns.
