Job Description and Qualifications
The Department of Psychology at Colorado State University invites applicati=
ons for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the AP=
A-accredited Counseling Psychology doctoral program. We are seeking indivi=
duals who have evidenced excellence or the potential for excellence in both=
teaching and research.

August 15, 2008.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate must have (1) A Ph.D. (or equivalent) from an APA-=
approved Counseling or Clinical Psychology Program, (2) An APA-approved int=
ernship, (3) Evidence of an active research program focused on clinically-r=
elevant issues in health psychology, (4) Evidence of effective teaching, an=
d (5) Evidence of potential for establishing collaborative relationships ac=
ross the department.
We are particularly interested in persons who are doing progressive, cuttin=
g edge research in health psychology. Research interests in health psychol=
ogy include, though are not limited to, such topics as health-disparities t=
hat affect underserved populations (e.g., older adults, children, women, et=
hnic minorities), chronic illnesses, health-enhancing or health-compromisin=
g behaviors, psychological assessment of medical patients, patient-provider=
communication, treatment adherence, stress-management or coping in face of=
medical conditions, factors that influence physical and psychological well=
-being, and occupational health psychology.
The successful candidate is expected to teach both graduate and undergradua=
te courses. Although actual course assignments will vary based on candidat=
e interest and expertise, the successful candidate is expected to teach the=
core program graduate course, Empirically Supported Therapies. Other gradu=
ate course assignments include courses such as Psychological Assessment and=
supervision of practicum. Because of supervision of practicum, the success=
ful candidate is expected to pursue licensure in Colorado. Undergraduate as=
signments may include courses such as General Psychology, Abnormal Psycholo=
gy, Basic Counseling Skills, History & Systems, Research Methods, and Psych=
ology of Personality. Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students is a=
lso expected. Candidates who can enhance the department's commitment to div=

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

The Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program
The Counseling Psychology program has been APA-accredited since 1970 and cu=
rrently consists of eight full-time faculty members and about 50 doctoral s=
tudents.
With a nationally prominent faculty and diverse student population the pro=
gram has been an important part of the Colorado State University Psychology=
Department. Students acquire skills in advancing psychology as a science =
and become proficient in the use of a variety of counseling and clinical te=
chniques through training based on a scientist-practitioner model. At the =
most general level, the Program is intended to produce psychologists who ar=
e equipped to deliver a broad range of psychological services across a vari=
ety of social and cultural environments.

Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology is in the College of Natural Sciences along wi=
th seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Ch=
emistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The depar=
tment serves approximately 1100 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate studen=
ts, with over 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral=
programs: (1) Applied Social Psychology, (2) Cognitive Psychology, (3) Cou=
nseling Psychology, (4) Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and (5) Perce=
ptual and Brain Sciences. The department also houses the Tri-Ethnic Center=
for Prevention Research, a University designated program of research and s=
cholarly excellence that concentrates on social problems that affect rural =
and minority ethnic communities; and the Colorado Injury Control Research C=
enter which is funded by CDC and is dedicated to reducing the occurrence an=
d severity of injuries in rural areas of the Rocky Mountain region, particu=
larly among underserved populations. The department encourages interaction=
and collaboration across graduate programs and with other groups on campus=
, and as new faculty members are hired, one objective is to further strengt=
hen this interdisciplinary collaboration.
The department has over 100,000 square feet of research and office space, w=
hich spans three wings of a single building. Included are research laborat=
ories in cognitive psychology, physiological psychology, sensation and perc=
eption, and social and environmental psychology. There are also computer f=
acilities and equipment available for the undergraduate instructional labor=
atories and teaching environments with state-of-the-art multimedia capabili=
