It is that time of the year when we seek to organize symposiums, panels, meetings, and workout sessions for the annual ABA conference in May. Below please find a copy of the call for papers pasted from the ABA website. Please note that this message is going out via our "Yahoo!" group, and also via our mailing list. I apologize in advance for duplicate copies.
At present, the following topics have been under discussion for presentation in San Diego:
The Direct Assessment of Physical Activity and Its Contexts (McKenzie)
Behavioral approaches to health and fitness interventions: Practice and recommendations. (Sharpe, Martin)
Behavior Analysis in Obesity Assessment and Intervention: DD/MR populations. (Fleming)
Functional Analysis of Athletic Performance in High school football players. (Stokes)
Effects of Structured Video Performance Feedback on the Blocking Performance High School Football Players (Stokes)
I am striving to help the authors organize under the umbrella of the HSF sig, both to ensure that related presentations can be grouped meaningfully, and to aid ABA members in discriminating the class of HSF applications otherwise obscured within the broader content areas. I have proposed this latter objective may be facilitated by entitling presentations "HSF: Your Title Here," or "Health, Sport & Fitness: Your Title Here." Obviously title length and author interest are determining factors in whether or not this is implemented.
Additionally, we are close to having a panel organized, broadly addressing ABA and health/sport/fitness applications. The ultimate focus will be shaped by the panelists.
A Business meeting will be scheduled.
People interested in providing workout sessions at the conference in San Diego are encouraged to utilize the suggested title format: "HSF Activity: Your Title Here." In the past, we have had sufficient interest to sponsor "HSF Activity: PreCompetition Dog Breathing", "HSF Activity: Martial Arts," "HSF Activity: Yoga For Relaxation." Titles have been modified to demonstrate the proposed format.
I invite interested presenters and symposium coordinators to contact me so that I can facilitate communication among presenters. We will leave it to presenters to organize symposiums, except where assistance is desired. We can forward e-mail and e-mail addresses on behalf of members to facilitate contact. We also welcome calls to this list for chairs and discussants, should these be required. With ABA limits on the number of presentations by a single author, it may be necessary to allocate time carefully.
Thanks in advance for all your time and effort in support of behavior analysis research and application in health, sport, and fitness. Let me know how the SIG might aid your organization efforts.
