This ASD Support Group (Singapore) aims to provide a channel for parents having children with High Functioning ASD (including Aspergers Syndrome) to share and exchange personal experiences, views, ideas, problems or any related issues that they faced or have encountered in managing their child.

In view of the limited places at Special Needs Schools (such as Pathlight School, Rainbow Centre or Metta School), more and more parents of children with ASD have no choice but to put these children into mainstream schools. The issue of how well these children will perform or are being managed in mainstream schools will depend very much on the parents themselves and hopefully with the help of an understanding Principal and patient Form Teachers. This is an issue that is very dear and close to the hearts of these special parents.

With this in mind, let us use this email support group to foster learning (through each other's experience) from one another, with special emphasis on managing learning disabilities, education in mainstream schools and social well being in society.

The idea of forming this group was briefly discussed amongst a few fellow parent members of Autism Association (Singapore) after attending the April 2002 parental talk on "Preparing Your Child For Primary 1" organised by AAS. As one member had suggested: "let's form an email forum for Special Parents with Special Kids".
