Hi all.

Dr. Elysa Marco and the UCSF Autism and Neurodevelopment Program are recruiting
boys between the ages of 9-11 years old who have autism to participate in a
non-invasive study of sound and touch. Interested parents can call or e-mail
the center for a confidential phone interview screening. If selected to
participate, subjects can participate in diagnostic testing, cognitive testing,
a brain activity scan, a Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) of the brain, and
genetic sampling. Participants will be compensated $20/session.

For more information, please call or email: Susanna Hill (415) 640-2680 or

Hi! I am a music therapist and behavioral consultant specializing in autism
spectrum disorders with a clinic located in Central San Rafael. I combine
engagement-based approaches, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Social
Thinking (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) with musical experiences that target
specific behavioral goals. I use the evidence-based SCERTS model in determining
developmentally appropriate curriculum for each child and family. Placing a high
priority on parental involvement, I collaborate with parents in developing an
individualized treatment program and in the sessions themselves. You can learn

We're moving to Marin in January with our 2 boys. Our 10 year old has
Asperger's, albeit somewhat mild. Any suggestions on which school districts
have the best resources and support? We're leaning toward Larkspur/ Corte
Madera, possibly Ross. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Dear friends of the Marin Autism Collaborative:

I am the parent of a child with autism (as well as typical twins), and an
author. My book, "Coloring Outside Autism's Lines" is about how autism
families can add more fun and adventure to their lives in practical,
real-life ways. I feel so strongly that having fun helps our kids and our
families live richer, better lives -- but there are so many pressures on all
of us. Fun can get sidelined.

I am going to be at Book Passages in Corte Madera on Sunday, February 13 at
4:00 pm. Rather than a long lecture, I tend to give a brief talk at these
events and then open the floor so local parents can share what works for
them, what adventures have been successful, or what flopped and what they
learned from it. Everyone comes away with new ideas and we talk about how to
really put a family priority on discovering new experiences.

Hope to see you there!

I'm passing along info about a free feeding chair in Marin, in case anyone could
use it!

Julie

Hi folks,
I have a Wenzelite feeding chair here ready to be donated to a good home. It was
my son's and he has grown out of his need for it. It is suitable for a child in
the range of 2-6 years...depending on how big he/she is. It is in good
condition.

It has a seat that is removable from the base. The base is green and on caster
wheels and it moves smoothly. The seat has good support for kids like my son who
has trouble with trunk, head and neck control....it comes with lateral supports
and a full vest harness to keep the child securely in the seat. The seat can be
tilted to be 90 degrees or further back...

If you or someone you know could use this piece of equipment, please let me know
and email me at j_Brooke@.... I can send photos if you need therm.
Thanks!!

Hey all--

I am new to this forum. I hope it is ok to ask for advice right off the bat.

I am an Educational Therapist and I am working with a little 2nd grader on the
spectrum. I was pulling out some emotion cards for us to look through and
describe, and when I put down a picture of a crying adult male, he told me very
quickly that he did not want it on the table. I asked him what the card made
him feel or what it did inside him, and he thought for a few moments and said
that it made the list of inventions in his mind shorter.

I have been sitting through a workshop about empathy, sympathy and personal
aversion in response to sadness in others, and the personal aversion seems to
get in the way of empathy/sympathy. The speaker said that the personal aversion
response is part of dis-regulation.

So...has anyone run into this before? Any thoughts of how to help this little
kiddo start regulating his response to sadness and upset in others?

Thanks!

We are the parents of an almost 3-year-old high-functioning boy on the spectrum.
We are interested in expanding our son's peer network to promote his social and
communicative skills.

Are there existing childcare coops dedicated to serving the needs of ASD
children? If there aren't, is anyone interested in forming a coop or
nanny-share with a socialization and communication focus? Also, does anyone
know of Integrated Play Groups (IPG) in the area?

Thanks for any information!
