Re: [Autism-Mercury] Re: Pill Shooter

Thank you so much Becky! Will be going there tomorrow.

Take care,
Christina
:)

Hi Christina:
I bought a pill shooter from Petsmart. It was
actually called "Pill Gun" by the manufacturer
Top Dog (I think). They actually had two different
kinds and I bought the one that had the clip at the
end of the shooter (to fasten the pill) and could be
filled up with a little water. I used to place the
contents of pills on his food which I'm sure tasted
awful and so when I was teaching him, I would ask him
if he wanted to have the contents of the pill placed
in his food or swallow a pill and he would say "swallow".
So then I used the pill shooter and didn't put the
contents in his food if he swallowed the pill. It only took two
days for him to learn how to swallow, so I think the key to teaching
the kids is for them to learn to place the pill far back in their
throat that it can be swallowed easily. That is a difficult task
for my son since he has a lot of oral sensitivity. Hope this
helps. Take Care, Becky
