We have new neighbors, and they are deleaded their house - themselves. Pretty
stupid if you ask me, but that's what they're doing. Anyway, last evening,
their six-year-old girl was outside, playing hopscotch in the driveway. My
daughter, the same age, looked out the window and wanted to play with her.
Given my daughter's history, I wasn't going to say "no." So we went outside
and the girls played in the driveway. At one point, the other little girl ran
inside the house. When she came out, I noticed she had something light blue
thing in her hand. Both girls ran behind the house. They emerged a minute
later wearing masks over their mouths. I was horrified when I realized they
were wearing the same masks the parents had used to delead their house.
I quickly took my daughter inside, washed her face and then I made her swish
some water around her mouth and spit it out. Then I had her take a bath.
Now, of course, I'm frantic my daughter was exposed to lead, on top of all
the mercury, antimony and other crap in her body. How dangerous was this?
Should I call my doctor about a lead blood test?
Or, is it possible I'm all worked up over nothing? I'll be the first to admit
I worry a lot (probably too much) about my daughter. But she has been through
a lot, and I have too.
