Hi,

Kenneth Bock is in practice with his brother, Steven Bock, who is the
director at their Rhinebeck clinic. Ken sees children with autism. When I
called for myself as an adult interested in chelation for mercury, I was
directed to see Steven Bock.

I saw Steven Bock 1 time for evaluation and lab testing with a followup
phone consult as I was a 2 hour drive from them. The evaluation was
comprehensive and he clearly understood that I was undergoing amalgam
removal, but still had several teeth with amalgam. Nonetheless, he
recommended several supplements (to buy there of course) including a product
called Mercury Amalgam Formula, which is specifically made for their
practice. This product contains Lipoic Acid as well as Chlorella. I took
this product as prescribed twice a day for about 2 and 1/2 weeks until I ran
across Andy Cutler's website, purchased his book, and read it. I
immediately stopped for the obvious (i.e., if you have read Andy's book or
carefully follow this list) 3 reasons. First, lipoic acid should not be
used while still having amalgam in your mouth. Second, the frequency of
dosing of lipoic acid at twice a day would be inappropriate regardless of
any remaining amalgam. Third, the product contains chlorella which may be
dangerous for those with mercury poisoning.

When I had my telephone followup, I mentioned some of Andy's ideas and Dr.
Bock (Steven) was unaware of Andy or his book. He didn't seem surprised
when I told him I still had amalgam in my mouth and didn't seem to feel it
was a problem to be using a product with lipoic acid while I still had
exposure to mercury. When I discussed a chelation protocol with him, I told
him I was uncomfortable with the protocol mentioned in the heavy metal
detoxification article written by him on his website which suggests a large
single dose of DMSA every other day. He said that the article was a few
years old and should be changed, but a recent visit to the site finds the
article still up. Currently, he uses the every 8 hour, 3 day on and several
day off schedule for DMSA.

As Dr. Bock is not covered by my insurance and he charges about 400
dollars/hour for his time, I decided to treat myself. I recently brought my
DMSA provoked urine result with mercury at 2.5 times the upper normal cutoff
to my primary physician, a mainstream doctor. She is very skeptical (big
surprise), but as I told her that I was already taking DMSA and would
regardless (and told her this could affect my neutrophils and liver status),
she has at least agreed to run regular CBCs and liver profiles for me.
