Hi Theresa,
David's hair test shows antimony and silver in red, and aluminum,
cadmium, lead, uranium in yellow. As I said, he had 14 essential
elements in the middle band, with some characteristic pattern - high
Ca and Mg and low Na and K. We did Elemental Analysis (packed
erythrocytes) from Great Smokies Laboratory for toxic and essential
elements, to my surprise, it showed elevated mercury and silver from
toxic elements and elevated copper and molybdenum from essential
elements. All other elements were normal. I don't know how to
interpret this result, may be, it means that he had recent exposure.
I stopped breastfeeding David in June, and the test was done in
November, and I had 4 amalgams, may be he could get this mercury and
silver from my amalgams. Or may be some of nutrients which he was
taking could mobilize mercury and silver from within the cells - I
don't know. It's interesting that I saw immediate improvement in him
after I stopped breastfeeding (I did not know anything about autism
at that time, and did not use any intervention). We started chelation
with DMSA only, and I see improvements after each round. Today he
played football the first time (I could not believe - but his father
swears). After first round I did not see difference, but his behavior
therapist asked me:" what are you doing with him? He does things he
never did before." During the second round he agreed the first time
to ride the bycicle, and we were riding on all the cars in "Toys are
us" for an hour ( and bought one car, and he loves it!).I did pre-
and post- provocative urine test during the first round. Pre- test
showed some arsenic, mercury, nickel, tin and cadmium coming out (all
in green), and very little lead. Post- test showed a lot of lead
coming out (39 - reference range 15), tin also was in yellow, and no
mercury at all. May be DMSA binds first with lead? I don't know but I
am sure that mercury is still there.
I think that if you are not sure if your child has mercury toxicity
or not you can just try to start chelation and see if your son has
improvements or not. Urine test may also show if you are getting
anything out or not. I believe that just one or two rounds of DMSA
are pretty safe. David just turned three, his weight is about 32 lbs,
we used 75mg DMSA every 4 hours and did not have any problems.
Do you see benefits from epsom salt baths? I agree, they could give
wrong result for Mg, but if they help may be they could also
normalize some mineral transport(just an idea...)
Best wishes,
Margaret
