Dear Listmates,
I've gone into "lurk" mode as things are really piling up on me here. I'm hundreds of messages behind at the moment, and don't see and end in sight for the next couple of months.
I did want to report that we weighed Kenny last night and found that he has gained 10 lbs in 14 weeks of chelation treatment!! And no, it's not the kind of weight that just goes on around his waist. I believe he's actually experiencing a growth spurt. (Hmmm, no wonder I've had to buy him so many new clothes!) He's gone from a size 7 to 8/10. This may be a significant observation, as he was in the 90th percentile on height and weight, but then dropped below the 50th percentile with the onset of all of his problems. His appetite has increased somewhat, but I also believe his body is just doing a better job making use of what goes into him now.
I've also been doing an assessment of skills using the ABBLS book, (Verbal Behavior/ABA) and am amazed at how much progress he's made with speech and verbal behavior since we started. Our speech therapist is very excited and says she's never seen a child pick things up as quickly as Kenny has. Not only are the sounds coming out finally, but there seems to also be good understanding of how to put words together.
On the down side, we are experiencing some difficulty with frequent urinary accidents, as well as night wakings and BM accidents in the night. Definitely worth it for the gains we are seeing.
