ANDY: Dr. Gregory Ellis/Homeopathic Detox   Message List

Andy:
In your last statement regarding homeopathic treatment for autism you wrote
(below): "There are generally reports of modest improvement from this, but
nothing dramatic."

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "dramatic".

Our son has been homeopathically detoxing with Dr. Gregory Ellis since
October 2003. Like the DAN! doctors are on the "cutting edge" of autism
treatment
in allopathic medicine, I believe Dr. Ellis is on the "cutting edge" in the
homeopathic realm of autism treatment. He uses advanced multi-remedy and
sequential approaches that very few homeopathic doctors are utilizing. Ellis
wrote a book entitled "Autism Body-Brain Connection" available on-line. This
book does not explain how to "do it yourself" since Dr. Ellis does NOT use a
cookie cutter approach to autism treatment, but instead a highly individualized
one. The book explains Dr. Ellis philosophy behind the disability (or as
he says, "Toxicity"). One can also Google Tinus Smits and "Post Vaccination
Syndrome" for more on homeopathy and the sequential method.

Prior to starting Dr. Ellis' protocol, 80% of my son's body was covered with
eczema, he had little to no eye contact, he parroted back about 100 words
and did not use language meaningfully to communicate, he would not push a
simple toy truck, he perseverised on different things like the alphabet and
numbers, he would frequently tantrum, he had sharp sensory issues as I was
unable
to cut his nails, hair, wash his face, or comb his hair. Brushing teeth had
been a problem. Transitioning from one task to another was often problematic
as he would tantrum upon leaving the park or taking a ride in the car. He
would not be able to answer simple questions and barely had any interaction
from others.

Now we are witnessing what I consider to be "dramatic" improvement: The
eczema has cleared by 99%, he has full eye contact, he pretends readily on his
own with toy figures making up his own (appropriate) scenarios, he is bursting
with language, his symbolic play is exploding, he enjoys all of his toys and
plays in a very productive manner, spending time with each toy and really
playing as opposed to hopping from one thing to the next: puzzles, coloring
with crayons, toy figures, cars, books, kitchen set, playdough (sometimes he
makes pizza out of it with different "toppings", "bakes" it, cuts it with a
pizza cutter and serves it to us: all on his own), he requests trips to the
library where chooses & checks out his own books/videos, sometimes he requests
a
trip to Target, holding hands willingly in the parking lot and is able to
walk along side me in the store without holding hands or running away, he reads
at a first/second grade level, his sensory issues have drifted away: he
washes his own face, combs his hair, brushes his teeth, and allows me to cut
his
hair, he now transitions wonderfully from one task to the next and no longer
has tantrums. His sleep is better. He approaches other children in the
park and asks "what are you doing?", he can play games like hide-n-seek. He
will now occupy himself productively for the day if we allow, spending plenty
of time with different toys like an older toddler would. He can express his
feelings (I'm sad, I'm worried), and is able to articulate to us when he is
hungry or thirsty (I'm very hungry. I want lunch, Mommy.) He also follows
directions very well (Go potty and put on your jammies.) He has started to try
to weasle his way out of a bath (I don't want a bath. Let's take a bath
tomorrow). He is generally more "with it". Our son is now 5. In my
estimation,
his progress has been remarkable.

I removed my son from school in March of this year since his progress went
heads and tails over his classmates and the school was no longer the correct
atmosphere for him. I've had him home since then (with no therapy) enjoying
playdates, trips to the petting zoo and so forth. We have been making up for
lost time. In addition to Ellis, we have employed Osteopathic
Sacral-Cranial Manipulation with a DO to compliment Ellis' detox, SCDiet and
the general
principles of Floortime in our son's play. We have never done chelation or
the DAN! protocol.

Hope this helps someone.
Feel free to e-mail me privately.

The doc's I know who do this either do it the unsophisticated way of
having a list of remedies they try randomly because they are for
"autism," and have no succes, or they do it the regular way by matching
the remedy to the kid without real regard for the allopathic diagnosis.
Most of the people who do this use computerized materia medica.

A few use electrodermal screening to select remedies.

Many people don't prescribe in a "classical" sense, but prescribe
drainage remedies, often based on indications in a more normal western
allopathic manner. There are generally reports of modest improvement
from this, but nothing dramatic.
