Hello All,

Went out to lunch today and thought I was ordering just the right thing.
I got a greek chicken salad. All was well until I took the first bite,
the chicken they used had some sort of sweet glaze on it! Not only
sugar but it was really so to say YUK! Normally I do ask but who would
have thought they would use a glazed chicken in a Greek salad. At least
I've never had this happen to me before.

Hello Denise,

Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry I am going to ask my doctor about the meds.
I was just wondering if any of you had any expearance with the L-taurine. My
doctor is really good as he listens to you and won't tell you no if you find
something tha might help.

Hopefully I'll get off all of it except for the thyroid.

Hello Pam,

My cheat wasn't a good low carb, it was a big one...... but that's over with. I
also started induction the first week of lent. I really hadn't put sweets on my
list to give up for lent as norally they're not a big thing with me. Not that I
don't like them:) My thing of all things is catsup!!! But I do agree with you
about eating the low carb stuff. It would make me even want more too. Thanks
for the welcome and advice.

Mary,
one thing I have discovered is that while there are many companies
making low carb or no carb sweets (candy, ice cream, etc...) they
tend to make me want more, it's like it just triggers a binge in me
and I lose control. Maybe while you are starting out you may want to
omit those goodies as tempting as they are ;) I happened to start
Atkins induction during the first week of Lent. I gave up sweets for
lent which I included any low carb sweet on the market. This has
also helped me stick to it because I have made this promise to not
only me but to a higher source ;)

Best of luck, this group is great, I"ve lurked here for about 6
months on and off and love the support they give :)

Hi and welcome! yes, as you discovered, those cheats just aren't
worth it, are they? As for the meds, that is best discussed with your
doc. I will mention that migraines usually disappear on their own
when a person follows Atkins. The other thing I wanted to mention is
the diruetics. Once you are in full swing with Atkins, which should
be really soon, you should be able to drop the diruetics as well.
Again, discuss this with your doc.
Good luck,
Denise

Hello All,

I'm Mary Louise, I'm 51 years old and I'm tired of being overweight. I need to
loose about 150 pounds and I've been on every diet that you can think of. I
have been doing Atkins for 2 weeks this next Monday. I think I've been doing
pretty well just one slip and I'd wished I hadn't not just because of the cheat
but the next day I was having hunger pangs and I had gotten over all that. I do
have another problem that I hope that maybe someone here may have had some
experence. For one I have an underactive thyroid and I take levoxl and cytomel
for it. I not only take one diuretic I take 2. Have any of you tried L-taurine

   Hi all,
I am a returning member here. I began doing Atkins in July 2003 and
had lost 35 lbs and then got to the holidays and fell off program. I
am just returning and have I began induction last week on Tuesday and
in that week I have lost 8.5 lbs. of the 12 lbs I had gained in this
   time!!!

But.... I am having a terrible time with dizziness and
lightheadedness. This is not an uncommon problem for me but
previously I would have about 4 oz of orange juice and it would help
me. I really don't want to have anything like that now, as I'm
trying so hard to rid myself of the cravings for sugars and I feel
that it would just trigger this in me again. Atkins has to be a way
of life for me, if I start eating sweet things I tend to crave more
   and more of them :(

Any ideas would be so more than welcome!!!

   Thanks,

One thing that I have noticed myself is that if I don't stay very
close to the induction carb rate, I'll stall, and much beyond that
will start gaining again. For me it's more a matter of lifestyle - a
sedentary office job with little moving around, hence not as much of
an opportunity to burn the fat. Regardless of this, throw away the
scales! Invest in a good set of calipers and learn to measure your
bodyfat this way if you want to put some numbers on your progress, or
just enjoy watching your belt move in from notch to notch. Remember
that if you are exercising, you will be gaining muscle, especially
with all of the protein in this regimen, and at first will gain
muscle weight faster than you lose fat weight (muscle weighs more
than fat). Also, invest in some of the ketone strips that diabetics
use to monitor the ketones in their urine. This is a sure indicator
that you are losing - if anything registers then you are definitely
making progress.

I gained two lbs in the first two weeks, while DH lost 12! We were
eating the exact foods, (only I was eating slightly smaller portions
as I am smaller than him), so I know I was doing it correctly. I then
proceeded to lose those two and an additional 10. Your body will
naturally fluctuate, as it adjusts. It also has to do with what time
of day you weigh yourself, how much water you drink, and other
things. Be sure your scale is on a flat surface like tile or wood;
scales on carpet are known to give all kinds of crazy readings. Short
of that, are you still losing inches? It's not all about the scale!
If you are still shrinking, don't put so much emphasis on that darn
scale, and let it drive you nuts! Just accept the lost inches and go
with it!!

Has this happened to anyone else.

I also had bad keto-breath; Smints is what I use. I have also heard
of people chewing on fresh mint leaves. I am more concerned about
your mention of "giving Atkins a go again." Atkins is designed as a
way of eating for life, not a "diet" that can be picked up when you
need to lose a few lbs, and put back after you've lost the weight.
You simply go thru all the phases, then follow Lifetime Maintenance,
well, for life. Perhaps you should consider this?
Good luck to you,
~D
