Don't get me started on this. The amount of water required by every
person is completely individual because everyone's energy levels,
exercise levels, and transpiration and perspiration rates are
different. There is no magic number like 64 oz plus any amount for
pounds overweight. A person may need 128 oz or even more per day if
hiking in the Mojave Desert in July. Another person that is
basically sedentary working or just living in a climate controlled
environment may only require as little as 16 or 20 oz of water per
day to be hydrated. Completely individual, no question about it. It
is a myth that the majority of people are dehydrated because they
don't drink enough water, chronic dehydration would very shortly lead
to death. Should a person drink water instead of other drinks? Yes,
probably a good idea simply because of the crap that is added to the
other drinks, caffeine, sweeteners, dyes, sodium, etc. That said,
drinking more fluids while in ketosis is also a good idea to help
with the bad breath, dilutes the ketones.
