Thanks Bernice!! It makes me feel better knowing people - someone
all - understand where I am coming from. I am sure people tend to
roll their eyes at this, but I AM a healthy eater. Apparently not
100% of the time since I got to the point I did - but it wasn't like
I ballooned 100 lbs the last 5 years. I eat healthier than most I
know and because of that is why I am worried about this surgery not
working. My problem was portion control. I had watermelon last
night. 4 or 5 chunks. Last year at this time I would have finished
off 1/2 of the watermelon (craved watermelon big time when I was
pregnant). I can't do that anymore thanks to my new tummy (and I had
foamies too the first time I had a bite of watermelon. hmmm - wonder
what it is?)
So this surgery wasn't to break my sweet tooth. I don't have
one....nothing like my DH's at least. And believe me, if I did, I'd
be in a whole world of trouble. Right now he has a Hostess stash of
Twinkies and cupcakes. Milk & Dark Hershey Chocolate bars...some
minis and Fastbreaks too. He has to have those chocolate chip
cookies in the 2 lb tin of cookies from Meijer - so those are in the
freezer. Mrs Smith Apple Pies. Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia & ice
cream bars. Oh yeah, and several types of chips. SO yes, if I was a
sweet eater, I'd be in big trouble!! lol He is 5'5" and weighs 140
lbs soaking wet. This stuff is a staple of his diet. He grew up on
it. I didn't. I can not eat that crap without feeling like crap. I
worry about him BIG TIME, but his whole family are like that and he
sees nothing wrong. (BTW My cholesterol is 167. His is 255!)
My family is overweight - while yes, they are crappier eaters than
me, with the exception of one, we still are prone to eat healthier
foods - lots of veggies and salad. Our problem is our dinner
consisted of meat, potatoes, veggie, salad, cottage cheese, bread and
a big glass of milk. DH's family sees potatoes as a veggie. It is a
given with our meals. That isn't me anymore, but that is how I was
brought up. Potatoes and bread (or any baked good) very rarely graze
my lips. Carbs, while I did eat more before surgery than I do now,
still were something I watched. Even something low carb isn't low if
you have 3 or 4 servings of it.... now I can only have 1 serving or
less so that may be my safety net.
Now onto something different. How is your house coming along? Is it
back together again? I want big trees around us, but we are also out
in the open. Not much barrier from the heavy winds. I guess right
after this house was built, the whole roof blew off in those straight
line winds (yours wasn't from a tornado, was it?)
Take care. Thanks for letting me ramble on!
Gwen
