Carbs - Question and vent.... long (sorry!)   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #117 of 142 |
I am kind of turned off by a certain person on OH since I think that
they are too pushy when it comes to carbs.

Maybe I am wrong, but I am going to have carbs and not fret over
every stinking one. I log each and every carb though. I range from
30-60 (only higher than 60 once that I am sure of). Some of the
supplements from my surgeon's office have quite a few carbs even, so
in the beginning I was at the mercy of taking in what ever just to
get the protein and liquids in.

I have had a few bites of non-healthy things. Just to see what it
would do. (I don't want to find out in a restaurant or at someone's
home...unfortunately - no problems.) I honestly don't want to eat
anything yet, so my goal is not pleasure, but to just get in my
protein and water and I don't find time for much of anything else -
like even veggies which I miss so much! Milk is higher in carbs than
I'd like, but I am not going to stop consuming that either. So for
someone to put their success on not eating more than 20 carbs or put
that the reason for slow loss is because of carbs bothers me.

The same person has told me personally not to compare my weight loss
to others "everyone is different" blah, blah, blah, but I feel their
posts are "look at me and my weight loss. You too can have these
results if you don't eat carbs." WELL. The reason I decided on
surgery was to quit dieting. If it is all about protein and carbs, I
could have saved a lot of worry, time and pain by going back on the
Atkins diet!

And I feel that eating a healthy balance (and that means eventually
not having so much artificial sweetener)- but including some
(little) healthy carbs - is the idea here. My NUT does not say one
word about carbs other than only once all the protein water & veggies
are in. I have basically been on a low-carb diet for years so I am
already used to not eating a lot of the bad things anyway. I also
feel that if I go to a strict low-carb diet that I will be gaining
once I introduce them back in. This is a new way of eating for the
rest of my life. Not a diet during the "honeymoon" stage or to get
it off as fast as possible then let me and my body fight it out.....

So do you thing my way of thinking this is wrong?? Am I setting
myself up for failure? It isn't like I am not taking it seriously.
I'd like to think I am realistic and looking long term. I don't want
to drop 150 lbs only to gain back 50 or more. This is just laying
the plans for the rest of my life.

Thx! Gwen
(Also 2 more things. I am a slow loser. Don't know why. I seem to
see a pattern. I lose for a few days and then hold for a few days.
The days that I lose are almost always at least a lb if not more. And
I wanted to add that I feel a little PMS creeping up and that may be
why I am defensive).
