http://www.addca.com/coachingprocess.html points out that this
is a SKILL that can be learned. Some of my hurdles are no more
than a case of comprehending that I have not identified a SKILL
or a PROCESS that can be learned. We all have gifts. Some of
us have SKILLS as well, learned through practice. Not having a
developed SKILL is not quite the same as having a dys-function.
Anyone else get stymied by hurdles that loom so high and wide
that it appears life itself stops as one encounters a barrier? I've
hit hurdles that others appear to navigate easily -- using mentors
and networks to see the hurdle far ahead and to manage not to
hit it as hard as I hit it. For me, it's a brick wall. Insurmountable.
With proper preparation, such hurdles are bypassed, negotiated,
reduced to a manageable height so that they can be scaled. This
is a SKILL that can be learned, once it is perceived as a SKILL.
It is not a gift, like curly hair or strong teeth. It's a SKILL. It can be
learned. I think it is important to distinguish between a gift that is
part of the hand that fate deals us (as I see it) and a SKILL that
determines how well we play the hand that fate deals us. See?
The virtue of using many Aspie minds adds a lot of power to any
discussion. I owe a debt to several Aspie minds (on several
lists) for collaborating on this! -Zer (who now has a new term to
use for being so scattered <g> in interests that few goals last
long enough to become achievements! Yay for perseveration!)
[from another list] > > ...Executive function is the ability to plan
and follow up on a decision. Those of us who lack it have piles of
stuff all over that never get sorted out. It is typical of ADD and
common among Aspies.... < <
