http://www.thejanepauleyshow.com/aboutshow/today.html was a
mind-blowing thing. I usually skip such programs, but sloth paid
off BIG TIME for me as I was not near enough to change channel
and found myself watching a program on Asperger's and dogs
that are trained to be companions for Aspie kids. Wonderful idea
to have a sensitive companion, one who can calm a kid, who is
sensitive to moods, who provides calm acceptance. Just great!
Also on the program was Dawn Prince-Hughes, a lovely lady I've
heard about but never seen. She was great, explaining how she
copes with sensory overload (such as a studio full of people,
lights, noise) by focusing and then by going to a quiet place after,
where she can reduce sensory input and get centered. Some
great footage of her with gorillas. Oh, how her face lights up as
she speaks of a spiritual connection with these gentle gorillafolk.
Dawn Prince-Hughes, Ph.D. is the author of "Songs of the Gorilla
Nation: My Journey Through Autism."
The program was shown today, December 7, 2004, and the link
seems not specific to this program, so you may have to hunt a bit
if you are chasing this info after the show date. Good luck! -Zer
